may i ask, what kind of foam is is? it looks like stiff garden foam, but i cant be sure...

I believe it is called "high densityΒ upholsteryΒ foam"

XD Its alright and good luck making your first fur suit head.
When making your first head, its good to start off with basic stuff than the advance (When your fully ready, then you can do the advance)
You'll need
Foam
Mask/Foam mask/ other mesh.
scissors
Buckram (It is a material used in fursuits for the part of the eye that you see through)
Glue gun
Glue stick for the Gun
fur/fabric
ducktape (be sure its not sticky-tape)
That's about it

and aim not entirely sure what i wanna do, but i was thinking just doing a simple cartoon-ish dog, since thats simple. i was gonna do a ram or a dragin, but thats for when im more experienced.

Yeah XD Don't do rams/sheeps or even dragons.
Dog's (in cartoon style) are the simple and easy way to start off building a fur suit head

I know you would think that is the 'fun' part, but it can be the harder part.

Yeah, even doing a simple fox is still good for beginners. But also keep in mind about how many colours u'll use on your character.

well since your not in Australia.. you can try find the Ski Masks in outdoor shops (like camping, skiing, rock climbing, etc). but if you cant find one near you or any type of store by that, you can check out Sports Authority ...
i believe that is in USA and hopefully it is known through out Untied States. Hopefully this help. But if u still cant find it u can try ebay they have them or order in other stores online.

Something you ill want to alert viewers is the fact that those mannequin heads, although easy to acquire, are poorly sized. They will want to measure their own heads and bulk the head up to match their own dimensions.
