Description
This photo took me several days to figure out how to make. I couldn't find any good tutorials, so I pretty much had to get it working through trial and error. (That and it made my viewport run at 0fps. Literally.)Programs Used:
Blender 2.73 with the cycles engine.
Render Time:
5 Hours at 5,000 samples with experimental OpenCL rendering on my AMD HD 7950.

This is really cool! Almost reminds me of Niagra Falls.XD OpenCL? I wasn't aware that they were working on that again...

Thanks!
And they aren't working on it again technically. I am just one of the few people who managed to get the Cycles OpenCL kernel to fully compile. (16GB of ram FTW xD) And as it is right now, its a decent speed boost over my CPU, but by no means blazing fast in super complex scenes. In simple to render scenes like this though, OpenCL can hold its own.
AMD contacted the Blender foundation a while back though, and said they were interested in splitting up the Cycles kernel, so its not one massive kernel. (The blender devs themselves said that cycles is so huge at this point, they are just barely able to keep the CUDA branch of it working.) So eventually things could get better in the OpenCL department.

Hmm. I have an AMD processor with integrated graphics, it's so bad that I'm not even sure OpenCL would be able to help.

It would definitely help in that case. AMD's strong point is graphics, and that integrated graphics card (so long as it's somewhat recent) should be able to outpace your CPU at rendering. I'd give it a shot at least. Can't hurt to find out it it works better. The way OpenCL is designed though, it can use the both CPU and GPU at one time to render. (One of it's advantages over CUDA, you could even technically render with an AMD gpu and Nvidia GPU at once with OpenCL since it works with pretty much everything.) So technically, even if the gpu isn't faster by itself, combining it with the power of the cpu could give a nice performance boost.
(Just pray that the kernel will compile for you. xD It's gotten much better recently, but it still could fail.)
I could even send you a link to a .bat file that I use to open blender with the experimental OpenCL branch enabled. If you want it that is.

I doubt that the kernel would compile for me, I have 4 gigs. I'm getting a new machine built in the next couple of weeks. With a GTX 760 FTW.

If you're getting a new rig in that time frame, getting openCL working probably isn't too relevant for you. xD But, congrats dude! I'm waiting for AMD's new line of GPU's to come out in 1-3ish months. Can't hurt to see if AMD will take the performance crown, or at least provoke Nvidia into releasing something even better. xD I'm in no rush considering this HD 7950 can still hold its own in new games.
But if you're getting the new PC built now, why did you go with a GTX 760? Why not the new Maxwell GTX 960? Was there like a major price difference, or was it out of stock or something?

I got the GTX 760 because I'm on a budget (sort of) and it has a nice 4GB of RAM. Plus, I ordered it before the 960 came out.
