Description
Here's an updated version of my old SSB5 roster. I have potential 26 newcomers, everyone from Smash 4 returns and all previously cut fighters are also back. This brings the total to 91 fighters (counting Miis). It is unlikely that we would get this, but these are who I would like to see for Smash 5.
There are also a few characters I didn't include that I'd also be okay with. These are: King Boo, Mona, Cranky Kong, Impa, Linkle, Ninten, Micaiah, Azura, Alph as his own character, Sukapon, Shovel Knight, Lloyd Irving, Banjo-Kazzoie.
I should also note that in this roster, Pichu is a semiclone a la Luigi, Ganondorf, Falco, Roy, and Lucas and that Young Link would have a Majora's Mask/Hyrule Warriors moveset. And if you're wondering about Pokemon Trainer Red, I think he could either work as a separate character or he could simply be in the background when you are playing as Charizard. One idea I have is that some of the Pokemon will actually have a Trainer with them in the background. It's just an ascetic change better fit the character. Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu in Melee, Charizard, and Greninja all come out of Pokeballs as their entrance animation, implying they are trained Pokemon as opposed to a wild one.
Here's my reasoning for each newcomer:
Waluigi: Him, Daisy, and Toad are pretty much the last characters of the Mario spin-off crew who's not in Smash as a fighter yet. Waluigi, despite his origins, has a lot of potential to be a very wacky and unique fighter. He is also the perfect character to represent the Mario Sports games and could have a moveset based on what he does in them.
Captain Toad: While regular Toad is Peach's neutral b, this Toad can very well be a capable fighter. He even got his own game. Unsure of a moveset for him at the moment though. I just think that Toad, being a very iconic character of Mario and Nintendo, should have a place as a fighter. He could also have Toadette as an alt character costume.
Paper Mario: Being the most popular character people want to represent the Mario RPG games, I certainly see the appeal for him despite being a third Mario. Having five games for moves to be pulled from, he's got so many choices. He's got hammers, jump attacks, partners, star powers, pixels, dimension-switching, stickers, and card attacks.
Ashley: I don't know much about WarioWare, much less it's wacky cast of characters. Almost anyone could work. Mona and Jimmy T. are also popular choices for a second Wario character. I went with Ashley since she's also really popular and I just like her more than most of the other choices. She also has more of a potential moveset as she is a witch so she could use magic to attack.
King K. Rool: We need more villians. We need more heavyweights. We need more Donkey Kong characters. You've heard this song and dance before.
Dixie Kong: See K. Rool but remove the second sentence and change villians to females.
Lana: Other than Cia and maybe Linkle, Lana is the best choice for a Hyrule Warriors rep. She's got magic, a spear, and a summoning portal to use and a lot of cool and flashy moves to take from. She's also got a lot of material for her alt colors.
Excitebiker: The retro character I picked. Can't think up a good moveset for him, but when we got characters like Sheik and Captain Falcon, whose moves are almost completely made up, that isn't much an excuse.
Ridley: Whether you think he's too big or not, I just think he'd be a really fun character to play as. Project M had a really good Ridley mod with a good moveset and a reasonable size. Metroid really needs more love in Smash.
Dark Samus: The next best thing we can get as a third Metroid character if Ridley can't be it. She won't be a clone either. She's got several unique attacks from her boss fights in Metroid Prime 3 that could work for a moveset. At worst, she'd be a Samus semi-clone.
Viridi: A fourth Kid Icarus character may seem much, but I think she'd be a great addition. Being the goddess of nature, she'd have of moveset of mainly attacking with things like plants, rocks, water, and her own minions. Her Final Smash would defiantly be dropping a Reset Bomb on the stage.
Anna: She's one of the few recurring characters in the Fire Emblem series. In most of the games, she's just a simple merchant, but in Awakening and Fates, she's playable and appearently the RNG goddess. This may be a bit bias since she was one of my best units in both Awakening and Fates, I found her antics for money funny, and she's my Revelations waifu. As for a moveset, you've got her as a swordfighter in Awakening, an archer in Fates, and an axe user in Heroes. A Smash Bros Anna could a combination of all three. Maybe include the lance wielding Apotheosis Anna in too so Anna could use the three main weapon types of the Fire Emblem series.
Samurai Goroh: My choice for a second F-Zero character. He just seems more interesting than Black Shadow does. Since Captain Falcon's moves were completely made up, so can Goroh's. I can just imagine him unleashing a powerful katana swipe while shouting "Stingray Slash!"
Takamaru: Another retro character. I really don't know much about him. He did appear in a Dynasty Warriors game so moves could be taken from there.
Bandanna Dee: Out of all the possible characters for a fourth Kirby rep, Bandanna Dee is probably the most realistic. He's appeared in multiple games (sorry Fluff) ever since he appeared as Dedede's second in command in Revenge of the King in Kirby Super Star Ultra and he's not very spoilerish (sorry Galacta Knight, Magolor, Marx). Plus, he does have a full moveset from Return to Dream Land.
Krystal: I also known next to nothing about Star Fox. All I know about Krystal is that she was in Adventures, Assault, and Command, and has some mystic staff, which could be used for her moveset.
Decidueye: I picked Rowlett's final evolution as the Gen 7 Pokemon as Rowlett seems to be the most popular of the three (even though Popplio and in turn, Primarina is my personal favorite of the three), it's design is really cool, and because it's a fully evolved grass starter (sorry Sceptile), though Incineroar, Mimikyu, Tapu Koko would also work really well. It also seams that Ash does have a Rowlett in the Sun and Moon anime. Let's all hope the writers will actually evolve it. It could easily have it's signature Z-Move Sinister Arrow Raid as it's Final Smash. Decidueye is also in Pokken Tournament DX, so there's more moves to take from.
Rex and Pyra: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks amazing and if we did get another Xenoblade character, I think it should be someone from here over X. I went with Rex as he is the main character and included Pyra as she's like the Monado of Xenoblade 2. From my understanding, Pyra is the personified form the blade of the same name. She appears following Rex and fights with him if she's equipped. They could work like a Duck Hunt where they fight together but make up the same fighter or be like the Ice Climbers or Rosalina and Luma where you control two characters at the same time.
Isaac: Never played Golden Sun. All I know is that he's got earth magic and is very popular as an addition to Smash.
Chibi-Robo: One of the wildcard characters I picked. Never played the games, though I think Chibi-Robo does do some fighting in Zip Lash.
Chorus Kids: Remember the Gamatsu leak back when Smash 4 was being developed? Everyone on that leak made in except for Chrom (because Robin was more original) and these guys, possibly for the same reason the Ice Climbers were cut. Either way, a Rhythm Heaven character could work in Smash. Marshal or Karate Joe could also work. I'm just going with the Chorus Kids because of the Gamatsu leak.
Inkling: These squid kids are a shoe-in due to the success that is Splatoon. I love the first game and really love the sequel on the Switch. I already made a moveset for them as well.
Spring Man: After seeing ARMS for the first time during the first Switch presentation, my first thought was "I wonder how these guys could work in Smash?" Seeing that ARMS is, from what I heard, very popular and I like to think of ARMS as what Splatoon was for the Wii U: a new Nintendo IP that people instantly loved.
Rayman: ArtsyOmni got me interested in what Rayman in Smash would be like. Best fake leak I'll seen. I've never played Rayman, but I'm sure Ubisoft wouldn't mind since Rayman's already in Smash... as a trophy.
Shantae: If any indie character got in, Shantae would be my vote. I've played Pirate's Curse before and loved it and I do want to try Half-Genie Hero at some point. Even WayForward wanted her in. Maybe next time.
Shovel Knight: Everyone's fighting over if it should be Shantae or Shovel Knight should be the first indie character in Smash. I say why not both? I see the appeal for both and played both and enjoyed them.
