Physiology

Batbirds are generally small creatures covered in fine, fur-like feathers on their bodies and birdlike tail feathers. Their wings have often been compared to a Morcai's, as they are modified arms and hands covered with a thin membrane of skin. Their feet are clawed. They have flat faces with beaks, and their nostril membranes are often large and elaborately shaped. Most batbird species are dark shades of black and brown.

Behaviour

Batbirds sleep in caves during the day in small colonies and come out at dusk to hunt insects. They have distinctive chirps. They are very cautious around larger creatures and prefer to keep hidden when not hunting.

Other Information

The nocturnal counterpart to lawnskips in most regions of Lethe, batbirds make their dwellings in caves. In Lethian folklore they are perceived as somewhat antagonistic creatures, but they have done nothing to earn this unfortunate designation.

The idea for the batbird came in a dream; when I was searching my older concept sketches for creatures to populate the world of Lethe with, I decided to use this one.
