Description
*Please Full View*Ive been hesitant to submit this for a number of reasons.. the main one being what people would think of it. But ive decided to do it anyway and basically just let you make your own interpretations for this image.
What i will say is that this peice is suppoused to represent the anorexics thoughts. The things they tell themselves everyday to help them get through their hardships of not being able to eat, not being able to give in. constantly living this life...
If you like this peice, please check out my other deviation on this subject here: [link]

Very touching. I applaud you for speaking on behalf of those whose voices might otherwise go unheard.

Welcome, I've actually thought about doing something that reflects on the inhuman expectations on a person to pursue (and achive) "perfection"
What's ironic is that those "inhuman expectations" come naturally out of our quest to better ourselves.

i want a perfect body
i want a perfect soul
i want you to notice when i'm not around
you're so fucking special
i wish i was special
but i'm a creep
i'm a weirdo
what the hell am i doing here?
i don't belong here.
don't forget how pop cultures expectations affect men as well. i feel that is often overlooked. show nothing. feel nothing. be strong. be fit. make decisions. be successful. make money. get the girl. get the car. big house. Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.
Choose your future.
Choose life.

my ex-girlfriend, nathalie. the one in a good number of my photographs had a severe problem with anorexia.
once upon a time i did too (though related more to depression more than self appearance.. not that it didn't weigh in) weighed in at about 8.5 stone and i am 5'10". all better now though, i say as i consume my first rasher sandwich since leaving ireland.

good thing anyone with half a brain here's the word controversial and becomes more interested. since controversial and truth seem to have such a close relationship in our press.

media has the blessing and curse of being the most powerful source of influence over humanity. media in it's proper sense is meant to be objective. fact. freedom of information. the pursuit of truth. to bring people news of the world around them that they are not privy too and from that make decisions regarding their beliefs, politics, etc. i would go on a further rant but i'm just not feeling up to it, but this is why i became a photojournalist.
unfortunately, as the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely. media was definitely corrupted. by big business, to be specific. big business dictates pop culture. they buy out media. media tells the public. the public buys from big business. big business pays media. etc.
not all media is so inclined, of course. i, for instance - as a member of the media am not of that persuasion. nor are the periodicals and publications i support and believe in. they continue to bring truth and information. continue to work, risking life and limb to bring back the beauty and atrocity of humanity in order to better people's lives.
too bad the media with all the money (and therefore the largest range of broadcasting and mass of viewers) consists of the corruptable. but isn't that always the case?

of course it is.. it, well the world wouldnt go round if it wasnt the case, lol. yes, there are independant people out there who are part of the media and who dont buy into all that bad stuff.. but then again, the 'media' has a way to cover those people aswell, they just call them controversial and half the people who were listening to them will stop.. the stupid world we live in, huh?

the whole thing about 'pop culture' spawns from the media.. i wouldnt blame the media for EVERYTHING but i certainly would blame them for feeding us the ideas that we use as our basis for living, the building blocks for our existance. All of that stuff, the steryotypes and whatnot.. its very deep, maybe you should think of doing something with it, maybe not. but it has a lot of feeling and its very true.. our sad little existances..
i wouldnt know about the weights.. we use metric over here, but im glad to hear that your better. Im not anorexic, and hopefully never will be, but i get spells where i feel like i really understand people who are, feel the same things.. not want to eat, but i do eat and it goes away.
Its sad how so many get anorexia, i mean there is only so much you can do for people. Ultimatly its all in their own heads and its up to them to stop.. It makes me feel so helpless sometimes..
