Description Oil paint, acrylic, spray paint, crayon and tip-ex on canvas.
This painting was inspired by a distorted photograph of myself. I wanted to create an image of a face which is ugly, scarred, unfinished and strange. I was influenced by the work of Francis Bacon during the creation of this piece. Much like his lonely figures, this person is in anguish - it's flesh is reminiscent of slabs of meat, red and raw with dark purple bruise-like areas. I wanted to make a painting which is uncomfortable and disturbing to view. It challenges people to see different sides of people. I want to make the ugly beautiful.

Bacon?..looks more like scrambled eggs. Ha, just a joke. It's really very badass.

Awesome work! I doubt I can add to what's already been said.

I quite like the spraypaint, it adds to the ugly vs beautiful conflict going on in this. I'm a sucka for mixed media though.

Anyways, keep up the good work.

This IS horrifically beautiful! I to love drawing and seeing out of wack and just weird looking mouths/teeth, and the lips on this really caught my attention quickly and held it. Not only do I quite enjoy looking at your work here, but your descriptions on what influenced you to make each one is very interesting. Love it!

"self portrait with brain" because of its dripping red texture, I really like - but this is my favourite from your gallery.

you can easily see the Francis Bacon influence in both your colour choices, teeth and facial distortion (lensing) without it being a rip-off of his style.

Your artistic integrity pours through your influences, exceeding them. More texture, more dripping, moer sex, more grotesque, more red red red - that'll keep me interested.

Great stuff.

ha.. when i saw this in your main page, Bacon came to my mind immediately. You might want to look into Art Brut if you're seeking to make the ugly beautiful.

If you don't mind me commenting: I think you should leave spray paint aside. your paintings are alot better without them... You're good with oil, think you shouldn't let the spray paint 'spoil' your work.. just my two cents worth..
