Description
Swaeter's guide on making the purrfect warriors OC!This was originally just going to be for Clans-Reborn , but I realized it would probably help a lot of people as well, so why not?
What Swiftfoot would look like in real life: sta.sh/0aka0cfl6rd
x - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Choosing a Clan:
I forgot to put this in here... oops! Anyways, if you're joining a RP or something with your realistic character, you must pick a good clan. The name can determine how realistic the clan is and if you should be joining it or not. Unrealistic things like Aquaclan and Frozenclan aren't going to work; they're unrealistic. While something like Pineclan will work. It also depends on the environment you're in. Pineclan is a good name, but if there aren't any pine trees around, that's not good! For Swiftfoot, I'm just going to choose a clan from the books. He is now in Windclan.
Unrealistic Clan Names: Venomclan, Treeclan, Icicleclan, Lostclan, Hollowclan, Waterclan, Platinumclan, Speedclan, Silentclan, Poisonclan, Fierceclan, Justiceclan, Lonerclan, Earthclan, Airclan, Winterclan, Summerclan, Autumnclan, Springclan, Flowerclan, Evilclan, Glassclan, Volcanoclan
Realistic Clan Names: Pineclan, Frostclan, Iceclan, Mapleclan, Oakclan, Darkclan, Streamclan, Rockclan, Caveclan, Stoneclan
Remember, some realistic clan names may not be good if the environment doesn't go along with the name! ( Ex; a clan called Caveclan located near a few ponds, rivers and pine trees doesn't fit. While a clan called Iceclan will fit in a cold, snowy place. )

Skills:
Ravenpaw was a fast runner, which allowed him to flee from things quickly and hunt some things that may be a little dangerous. ( Like adders. )
Tigerstar was a powerful fighter, and so he could come up with a lot of strategies that worked in combat.

Names:
Appearance + Appearance: Blackfoot
Appearance + Personality: Brightheart
Appearance + Past: Clawface
Past + Appearance: Crookedjaw ( Was originally Stormkit ) and Lostface ( Originally Brightpaw, but was given the name Brightheart later )

Before I get more comments about Moon and Sun being here, they are here because they are sacred objects in the sky, and are often associated with Starclan. Yes, there was a Moonflower and Sunstar, but they were mistakes, created by someone who was new at the time. It was even revealed that Vicky tried to change Moonflower to Duskflower, but since Moonflower was already out there, she decided to keep it that. They didn't want those names to be used because it made a cat seem better than everyone else in its clan.

But why are the suffixes "eye" and "lake" bad?

xanthicSolarian In reply to loudyloud [2020-03-29 21:14:14 +0000 UTC]
i know this is two years old but theres absolutely no reason. people like to spread this idea of "traditional" or "good" naming and its ALWAYS cherrypicked
eye is a CANON suffix,Β from the FIRST series too,Β but somehow its a "bad suffix" simply because the creator doesnt like it
name your cats whatever you want, theres no rules. dont let people impose rules on YOUR ocs

I'd also like to say, even though this is really old as you said, that spirit is going to be a canon suffix because Rootspirit( I believe), and that I'vee seen a lot of the "unacceptable" prefixes and suffixes used in roleplays I'm in.

as someone who actually tends to use traditional naming, i fucking hate it. i hate people using it to shame people just having fun in the fandom
especially since a LOT of the people in this fandom are really young

I agree, I started in this fandom when I was 9-10. Kids will name their cats weird, unusual names, but that's fine! Most of the names aren't destroying clan culture(although I can get why prefixes such as kit, paw, and star are not allowed), so I think they should be able to express themselves without judgement!

The thing is, that moon is no longer taboo. Also Iβm sure water and stormy are okay prefixes.

I was thinking of using the prefix "Bat." What suffixes would work well for my OC (I was thinking either Claw, Wing, or Pelt).

Thanks. So far it's one vote for Wing, one vote for Claw, and zero votes for Pelt. I need to find out how to make polls (unless that's only a Core membership thing).

Would something like "Scarredheart" be okay? Β My idea was that Scarredheart's past was very scarring-for-life so... You get the point.

swaeters In reply to JamiiJum [2015-08-29 20:51:52 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure, I guess it would be fine if she changed her name herself but I don't think she would be named Scarredkit at birth, and I feel like a leader changing her name to that would be kind of unrealistic or rude to the character. ( Unless it's a situation like Bluestar naming Brightpaw Lostface )
π: 0 β©: 1
JamiiJum In reply to swaeters [2015-08-29 21:01:59 +0000 UTC]
In my story Scarredheart was Gingerkit at birth, and later the leader changed it. Β Then Scarredheart was okay with it. Β I just need some tips because I'm planning on uploading the story and I'm worried it will be really Mary-sue-ish and unrealistic..

Sounds more like a name given as an elder (Halftail was Sparrowpelt)

swaeters In reply to JamiiJum [2015-08-30 20:07:44 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure. It depends on the leader's personality / feelings about the character

Also I didn't come to thiscause I make bad OCS, I promise!! OTL I just get curious as to what people boundaries are when making cats.
But, hell, might as well ask you to check out my of from 2009
Name: Scarpath, but as a kit she was Brightkit. Her mother wanted her to be smart.
Reason her name was changed: She was found on the thunderpath almost dead after someone, can't remember who, tried to kill her in Shadowclan. She was taken into Windclan
Appearance: Half of her face and up to her shoulder are torn, and she had a green.. Eye.. She was also a calico
I'm embarrassed just inking about her ; ^ ;
π: 0 β©: 1
swaeters In reply to Shipping-Everyone [2015-07-03 18:44:30 +0000 UTC]
Well I guess it's an appropriate name if her name was changed once she got hit o:Β
My only problem is that it doesn't really roll off the tongue nicely, but it's still a fine name, so it doesn't need to be changed

My only question is the suffix Eye. I've seen it multiple times in the books, but were those mistakes? I mean, you said to not use it, but in your examples for good names you used Eye for Hawkeyes (clever, by the way)
π: 0 β©: 1
swaeters In reply to Shipping-Everyone [2015-07-03 18:39:33 +0000 UTC]
I meant eye without the s, because cats have two eyes, not one... x'D

I dunno about your 'forbidden names'. For instance WinterRain could work. Same with ThunderSlash and your supposed Frostwind. they are perfectly good names.
π: 0 β©: 2
swaeters In reply to TheNervousMedic [2015-06-29 21:01:00 +0000 UTC]
Cats don't use the word winter. Thunder is part of a clan name. So is wind
Also, Runningwind was apparently an error likeΒ Moonflower.
π: 0 β©: 0
CometStarlightPony In reply to TheNervousMedic [2015-06-29 15:29:20 +0000 UTC]
Thunder and Wind are forbidden unless you have made up your own Clans because they are names of Clans (they killed off Runningwind because of this), and cats don't know what winter is, they call it leaf-bare.

BrownKit; He's a dark brown tom and i dont thinkg darkbrownkit would work lmao(( formerly ))
HawkScar; name given after a hawk attacked him and left a huge scar on his shoulder + he has more scars(( now ))
is that good??

Not to be annoying. But technically, you shouldn't use sky since it was a clan once. But I use it anyways!

I think, for the names you shouldn't use, some are okay.
Prefixes: Arch is actually used in the books (Archeye from Yellowfang's Secret), Stormy is alright (Stormypelt, for a gray pelt, or Stormyfang for a grumpy personality and fighting skill), Coal is fine (the Clans have experienced wildfires, and coal is left afterwards), Β and vines could be found in marshy areas for ShadowClan, so Vine will do. Also, Cobra and Grizzly are debatable; they shouldn't be used in the original Clans, but they could be used for fan-clans, depending on where they live.
π: 0 β©: 1
swaeters In reply to wolvesofthebeyond0 [2015-01-19 01:27:45 +0000 UTC]
well, i haven't read that book? when i think of "arch" i think of like a cat arching its back which would be an awkward name for a kit! xD
i guess stormy is all right, but i think "storm" would sound better. it's shorter and doesn't sound as weird
i'm not sure they know what it's called, though?? like it's not a big thing in their life so,,,
well, for a shadowclan cat i guess that's acceptable, though i didn't really know they knew what they were...
cobra wouldn't really fit, unless the cats live in a hot tropical area, where they are found! and grizzly i don't think would really work because they don't really come across bears in the series and if they did i think they'd just call it a bear, not a grizzly bear or anything
π: 0 β©: 1
wolvesofthebeyond0 In reply to swaeters [2015-01-19 03:41:12 +0000 UTC]
Well, Grizzled would work, as it's actually a color (gray-brown). Grizzly, not really. I just thought i'd point it out.

My Warriors OC is named Inkfoot, and I'm not sure if that would fit. She has darker-stained feet because she stepped in an oil puddle as a kit, but it seems unrealistic to me. Would it be a good name?

CometStarlightPony In reply to cowmaiden [2015-06-29 15:33:43 +0000 UTC]

swaeters In reply to cowmaiden [2014-12-07 23:41:30 +0000 UTC]
ah, i don't think cats would really know what ink is, so maybe a better name for something like that would be "darkfoot" or "blackfoot" or even "duskfoot"

CometStarlightPony In reply to swaeters [2015-02-15 13:44:39 +0000 UTC]
Not Blackfoot! That's a cat's name in the books! Sorry if I sound mean, but I'm really scared because I named my OC's sister Hollyleaf and almost named her mom Goldenflower so I'm scared of the comments I'll get.

I wanted to say that Sun has been a prefix at least 5 times in the books. Sunstrike, Sunstar, Sunpelt, Sunspots, Sunfish, etc. Also, it is listed in the names section of the warriors wiki. Just thought I'd tell you!! : o

I agree nearly 100% with this :3. Though a few names are acceptable such as -Eye (White-eye from the 1st series), the rest is wonderful! Great drawings, by the way
