Katara shut her eyes, and waited; Aang's fingers rested on top of hers for a moment, then gently pushed down. She allowed herself to follow his motions, letting him push one finger down after another. When the pressure stopped and his fingers rose, she followed, mimicking his movements exactly by touch. Nothing happened for a few seconds--then, suddenly, she felt the tickle of air upon her palms.

Aang's fingers pressed down on hers again, and she flexed each one after the next, noticing how the motion followed the rhythm of the air. It felt almost like waterbending--a definite action with a direct reaction. But at the same time, she could feel the difference, the directed chaos and freedom of motion. If the rhythm was broken, the energy would not simply splash to the ground and sink; it would whirl off and never return, vanish wherever it chose to go. It was wild and unpredictable, yet there was such unbridled joy that there was no desire to truly tame it. The wind was guiding its own path as much as it was being controlled....

Katara hesitated for a moment, realizing suddenly that she was no longer following Aang's lead; she was moving independently, and his hand was imitating the motion of hers. In that moment of hesitation, she felt the wind die, and instinctively twitched her fingers again. Aang's followed, and the wind restarted, gusting around in a tiny, contained ball.

She felt Aang's touch leave her hand, but the wind continued. Hesitating, she cracked one eye open and saw that his hand was hovering just an inch behind hers, still manipulating the air within her palms. He glanced back at her and winked, then quickly turned his gaze back to the project.

She shut her eyes and smiled, allowing her hands to dominate her senses--the soothing brush of a breeze mixed with the slight tingle of a heavier wind danced from her palm to the tips of her fingers, in a pattern that was never quite repeated but also never unexpected.

So this was what it felt like to airbend. Even with the scope of her waterbending power, and even though it was only a small demonstration, it was enthralling.

Random drabble above...this picture started out this afternoon when I decided, "I don't have enough Aang, Katara, OR Kataang. It's hard to come up with something special, but just...draw something in the next thirty minutes." About thirty minutes later, I had a concept for this, and I adjusted the poses, cleaned it up a bit, and eventually wound up coloring. Disregard proportion and the thick arms, please.

In all modesty, I think the concept of Aang sharing airbending with Katara was actually really cute. Obviously, it's not "really" airbending, but the two blend well enough to mimic each other's actions. And hey, if Aang can make Sokka appear to airbend and Momo appear to Earthbend, he can make Katara feel like she's airbending, too.
