I have no idea why I decided to just up and draw this, but I did.And I'm pretty happy, because Mai as a mom was one of the things that I was always hoping for with the Maiko ship. Her having a kid, Zuko's kid, and being able to raise him (or her)...I dunno why, but the idea always made me happy.
The kid in question isn't exactly my design; he (or she) was kind of conceived by : [link] . Well, I suppose the baby was actually conceived by Mai and Zuko, but that's getting technical.

The picture was heavily referenced (cookie if you can tell me where from!). I'm actually fairly happy with it...especially the coloring job. Specifically Mai's hand. I don't know why, but the lighting came out PERFECT there.
I played around with her design a little...most noticeably, the bun cup thingies. Whatever you call them. I don't like Mai with a single topknot, really...it doesn't work with her bangs that well. So, instead of a crown, I figured that she could have other decorations. Like twin suns. Perhaps someone else can come up with something more practical and/or more creative, but I like these.
The kid has Daddy's hair...
Anything I should fix with this? I'm pretty sure that there's something wrong, but I can't pinpoint it.
Mai belongs to Avatar: the Last Airbender's creators, Mike and Bryan.

The child's a girl. In LoK, Zuko had a daughter who is the current Fire Lord. Her mother is not known, but it's most likely Mai.

That's adorable... I can almost see Mai teaching the tyke the art of knife-throwing (with blunt objects, a few years later, mind you)
Here's an idea for you: Turn the Fire Lady's crown into a lapel pin or a necklace; same shape, but without the ring meant to keep it in place. Mai keeps her status... and her gorgeous hairstyle.

Aw, so adorable! I wonder if Mai and Zuko ever really did get married and had a child? If they did, then Mai must have really loved them.

I actually haven't given that much thought to the feelings of Zuko/Katara fans, short of anything that would...be mean to them. Apathy is the best policy, I've found.
I'm sure that Mai and Zuko did get married, though, and had several happy/gloomy kids who learned either firebending or blade skills or a combination of both. ^_^

Great background on this one, and you're right, the lighting on her hand came out really good. And I like the little sunburst design thingy on her collar. I zeroed in on it for some reason. It's a nice detail.
