I was bored today, so I compiled a number of sketches and doodles together....some you may recognize, but most of them are thusfar unused. Some are concepts for future projects; others may directly become a future deviation.Top-left: I have a colored version, but it looks awful, so I'm not making it a deviation.
Below: because we all know that Mai's a great sister when no one's watching. Tom-Tom tells no tales.
The drawings of Mai in her date-wear are recent; green for March. The comic was an old concept....Jin looks cute.
Some Bleach elements are visible! Including Hinamori Momo, Piandao's Bankai (Bleachatar ftw!), and Byakuya with his nutritious prize banana.
Mai's just there because somehow, Mai and food are practically more OTP than Maiko.
Temari is also there, in the top-right...because she's awesome. Below that, you can see the Gaang in Combustion-Man-drawing style. And Jin. It was an old concept.

Mai in Numbuh Three's outfit from Kids Next Door (great show). She's adorable in that outfit....the outfit is adorable, and since Mai and Kuki share similar hair....ta-da! Zuko, naturally, gets the Numbuh Four sweatshirt and jeans....
Toph from a bored afternoon....I had a big Aang sketch, but I lost that, unfortunately....

Some eye work, some xcgirl08 references, and the rest is pretty much self-explanatory. ^_^

Mai, Zuko, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Ursa, Azula, Ty Lee, Piandao, Jin, Tom-Tom, and Momo all belong to Avatar: The Last Airbender and Viacom.
Byakuya, Bankai, and Momo all belong to Bleach.
Temari is from Naruto.

A fight between Mai and Azula would be VERY interesting, but I'm still thinking that it's going to be Katara vs. Azula....I dunno.
HAHAHA, I AM REFERENCED. Really, the only difference is the way I draw her hair.

Your Mai hair works well....it's so hard to do Mai's bangs "properly" while still leaving room for expression. I still find it hilarious that they trimmed her bangs for "The Beach" to allow her a more varied range....normally, it's great stuff for her character design because it adds to the reserved, apathetic feel...but when the time comes for her to show her inner self, well, those things get in the way.
Mai has to fight Azula somehow. It's been built up since "The Drill". Maybe even "Zuko Alone." Either way....
Piandao's Bankai involves liquid metal that he can mold into different shapes, like swords....props if you get the reference.

You've gotten pretty good with Mai, her poses are looking really natural now. My fave is the one with the pencil-colored hair. What attitude! And after that, the Mai and Katara. Hahaha. Thing is...I know Mai-like people and Katara-like people, and despite/because of their differences, they tend to bond really well. Interesting, huh?

I'm hoping that those two get a chance to bond....Katara wants to make Zuko's life miserable, Mai likes poking fun at Zuko when he mopes about his misery. Together, they can be an unstoppable team! THEY WILL DOMINATE THE EARTH!!!

I'm actually not holding my breath for Mai/Katara bonding, but the peasant has to meet one of the dangerous ladies again...because she and those two have so much. Eh, maybe Katara settled everything with "The Drill"....but at least one of the older girls has to switch sides and have something awkward with Katara.
Or Suki. Ty Lee and Suki awkwardness would pwn everything.

I'm not expecting anything, either. There's just not enough time, and I don't think that aspect could ever be important enough, for it to be developed. But it's fascinating to realize that, given the right circumstances, they would bond, rather well, too.

You'll be proud of me - the friend I converted to Avatar didn't like Mai, and I pointed out certain things (such as her independence from Azula, the way she "pulled Zuko out of his angst," and her overall awesome...dare I say I'm a fan of Mai now? DON'T GET COCKY

I'm not looking for outright overthrow, that'll make the fandom boring, I just want that "I'm all right with Maiko" attitude, because I think that's what the creators have shot for.
It's like I said in that one treatise on Mai, the Zuko comment at the end of the episode turned people off of her. As soon as she became a viable threat...you know.
Same reason why I never liked Jet or Haru.
Or Ruon-Jian....
And why it took me a while to like Jin.

Aw, you never liked Jet or Haru? I love both of them! Jet in this "you're totally bad and wrong in what you're doing...but I have this respect for how smooth you are about it," which later changes to horror/sympathy over what happens to him, even before he dies. Haru, in a sort of "Aww...you're adorable and too sensitive...and now a standing joke!" kind of way.

Well, I like them NOW, but their first episodes won no favor with me. Haru just...didn't work. And Katara was interested in him. Which is a no-no. He was also an earthbender, and having just come off of Bumi, it was a little...boring? Then he got a mustache, though.
Jet had my dislike until that wheat got severed. But he was amazing in the first episode because he hit every single nerve possible.
1. He showed up the hero (read: saved him).
2. He got the attention of the lead female.
3. He was cocky (in the frustrating way).
4. He had that horrible intro music which inflated his ego. To me.
5. He was besting Sokka at every turn.
And then he didn't change. Which let me keep hating him for X amount of episodes, until he lost that wheat, where his character suddenly became pitiable.
And then he died.
Which was sad.
I don't have a problem with any character now!
Except Tyro. Tyro bugs me. A little.
And anyone who treats Appa like an animal. Them, too.

I'll admit, I fangirled over Jet when I first saw it. Something about the way he could just rush around and totally destroy those raiders, no problem, and in that same motion run up to Katara and, "hey." That's just hot.
Understandably, you wouldn't have had the same reaction.
Within the episode that Jet was introduced, the way it was developed just perfectly hit every emotion - I felt suspicion at just the right moment, and frustration, and disbelief, and recognized his manipulation, just when the authors intended me too. I felt that same feeling about Hama in "The Puppetmaster." They developed it perfectly.
Sounds like your reaction to Jet was a little more akin to Sokka's, lol. My friend Kristy, the same one I mentioned before - she was absolutely enthralled with that episode, for the same reasons I did. But she said the perfect thing at the end, when Sokka says "yip yip" in that serious way. She said, "wow. Sokka just became a man."
It's true! That's the exact episode when it happens, I think.

Haru's dad. He's too....you know....wise-old-man-ish.
As for Jet, while he does that for girls, he has a similar effect on guys. As is, we feel threatened by him. He has brighter plumage, so to speak.....
Sokka DID become a man. He pwned everything in that episode.

Watching them this time through, both the Haru episode and the Jet episode, was totally weird. Okay, okay, please let me know if you're tired of hearing about this, and I shan't get offended, but I tried imagining how things would have happened if Katara hadn't been there, because she won't be in my story. It was really strange; her total passion for helping people is what made so much happen in the Haru episode; her inability to mistrust Jet had a huge effect on the gaang's decisions in Jet. I won't be going episode-by-episode about how the gaang is without Katara, but I'm going to at least mention those two events. When I get to that point in my story, things are going to be going to be quite different.
Tyro, the fake, not-as-cool, doesn't-even-deserve-this-title Iroh. =/ I thought he looked like Father Christmas.

And you have no idea how hard it was to type that capital "e." I'm using copy-paste at the moment, and I had to struggle with the key for so long because copy-paste doesn't capslock. And the explanation was tough, too.

I know. She's an incredible character. So much of the story of Avatar is, really, about her - her effect on the world, its effect on her, and her relationship with Aang.
awww....you should just have a document saved with "e" and "E," and have it copied so that when you're typing, instead of the letter e you can hit ctrl-v and one will pop up! lol, that might be even MORE effort. =/
