Description I like designing things that I would love to have. (I wish Crafty Celts would make this!)

It's still a gorgeous design.. I might have to do this one, one of these days

What would you charge for such? I also have a design for a smaller armband torq with a swandog head and panduck head (in a similar, simplified style) that I would love to have made.

Very nice! Well, I sometimes do patterns for casting. If I ever get the urge to try this (and that's entirely possible) would it be a problem? It would probably be the central design, without the heads overlapped, just meeting beak to beak, with the stone in the center. I'd be happy to make you one as well. I'm sure we could work something out. Depends on what it's made out of.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment! Do you have any pics of your work you could show? (I didn't see any metalwork in your gallery.) Yes, I would love to have one, but don't know that I could afford it. I was thinking it could be made from two strands of very thick silver wire twisted and welded together and a thick bronze ring at the base of the swan necks to keep the wires from separating...And yes, having the swans with billtips touching (and welded where they touch) would be nice as well, like in these images: [link] [link] and [link]

No, unfortunately I don't. I'm not even sure I have any pictures at all. Almost everything went straight to the man who does the actual casting. Then it went straight to whoever was getting it. Every piece I've done has been for a project for my group in the SCA, or for my husband, or friends. I haven't even kept anythig for myself! Lucky people!

Anyway, I think that I'll leave the cording to the metalsmith, and I'd just do the ends. And, no welding involved. I'd have it cast as a single piece including the space for the jewel. I'd have to find out what other metals could be used besides bronze or brass. I sure can't afford silver either.

So, thanks for the OK. I'll let you know if I get my carving skills up an running again.

Thanks, and I can't wait to see what you come up with! (I wouldn't care what metal was used, really, so long as it didn't turn the skin green, or be too soft and bend/break, or tarnish badly); I just thought silver would look nicest for swans.

It would! I guess the only way that's going to happen is if I hit paydirt with silverware at the swapmeet or something. You never know.

This is the exact kind and thickness of twist I was hoping to have on it (and it looks good in copper!): [link]

Very pretty. I guess they don't do custom stuff?

I did, and am waiting for a reply; they're the only place I know that makes swan torqs at all, but they stopped carrying them some time ago. They said they were currently revamping the design and plan to start carrying it again come Christmas, but I sadly can't afford to get one right now ($150).
