Description
This is for , of her lovely lobster-dragon char, surrounded by flora and fauna found in her natural habitat, in an art nouveau style. It was supposed to be a badge, but I...kinda went a little overboard. >_> The badge version has a white background, and the letters of her name will be painted on little seashells and hanging from the seaweed at the bottom, similar to the dangling coin charms on Chesire's badge:Β swandog.deviantart.com/art/Cheβ¦I didn't actually digitally color anything on this myself (the original is just inked and pencil-shaded), but rather, I cut out the shapes of every different colored item here from stock images of watercolored paper of various colors/gradients. So all the colors you see here are actually from watercolored paper, including the pine needles, which took foever to cut out. I only added some shadows and highlights to it all after I finished placing the pieces (requiring around 50 different layers for them all), and tweaked with the hue/saturation a bit to make some of the colors brighter or darker.
It was a fun experiment, and gives it more of an "old book illustraton" feel, I think.

Your grasp on mythic creatures is just sensational. I don't think I know anyone that can compare the the delicate, and unique approach. All the details, the locks of hair/fur/seaweed all gently falling upon the figure and the border. You truly have a gift!

This is pretty dang awesome. The idea of how you colored it sounds like it had some potential to be frustrating, but it turned out absolutely beautiful. Great job!

It was rather frustrating and difficult, and took forever, but I just wanted to experiment with it. And thank you! <3

It's so lovely, and the method you used to add colour is impressive as all get out. It does have a very old-book look to it; the background gradient and faint mottled texturing around the frame give it almost a watercolour feel. It reminds me a lot of Jan Brett's book illustrations, with its ornate frame and all the little complex details.
