I really am quite proud of this :3it's simple but elegant characters that I have the most fun drawing, and I think it shows. ~basi 's cream Basenji character, Caramas; I've loved this guy's design and background since I first saw him so drawing him was really my privilege. hope I did him some justice, Payna!

his owner/creator and I actually had a conversation about this and it's funny how both of us are like the only ones that don't think he looks sad in this picture! xDDD sighthounds and hounds in general really have such naturally soulful faces, I guess we're just used to the expression! my dog looks at me like that all the time when she's not sad or worried. hee.

Lawl.. xDD That's funny.. I can relate to that, though. I have a Jack Russell/Dachshund mix, and when we first got him (and he wasn't panting or making faces) he looked soo saaad. xD But now he just looks sort of bored in his natural expression. But yeah.. ^^ They always have those deep, soulful eyes.. Probably why they like to use sighthounds in ASPCA commercials.. Gorgeous animals.

When I first looked at this picture, I was like, that's a Basenji! Even though he is cream and the breed doesn't come in those colours, you did a great job with the anatomy and made the breed stand out.

Oh wow, you should be proud of this. I'll have to say, this is one of my favorite pieces out of your work. The coloring and shading are simply gorgeous, and the pose is just amazing. (My dog does the same thing.) I love how you did the eyes. Beautiful green, and I think the pupil isn't black, but a deep shade of green, am I right? Well, I think it gives it much more emotion and character rather than pure black, and then adding those tear ducts really adds on to it.

yeah, Caramas has lovely nummy goldgreen eyes and I wanted to do justice to that :3 I always make the pupil a dark shade of whatever colour the eyes are, just because I think it blends and looks better than a straight-up black!

Beautiful basenji anatomy. That's one of my breeds, and I say that you did it justice. <3 Only suggestion for 'senjis is to make the muzzle a taaaad shorter, and they're not as tapered as other sighthound breeds (probably because they're a scenthound, too).
Other than that, you nailed it. Wonderful work!

he's not supposed to be sad. :\ my dog looks at me like that all the time, it's actually her 'reproachful face'. xD but his owner didn't read that into it so it's all good :3 thank you!
there's a painty brush on photoshop, you just need to look for it. it's defaultsize 19 and below all the fuzzy brushes - very useful and not a lot of people know about its existence apparently :3

Omg, omg, omg. Holy crap! This is so perfect! You made him look so perfect. I love the pose and the simplicity of the image. The coloring also reminds me of that sepia toned old west look for some reason, which I think fits for him (he's really into old-fashioned stuff). I can't express how much I love this! :+favolve
People are saying he looks sad, but I think it's more of a "What? That's confusing..." look.

Good point. 
The wrinkles can do that, but they're just so cute. The expression reminds me of the one my dog gives me if I'm doing something he finds interesting, like eating or holding out a toy.
I now have this as my desktop background. XD Now, I must finish my part. I'm excited about drawing Asp. She's such an awesome character. If I remember right, she's petite? I don't want to make her look bigger or smaller than she's supposed to be if I can help it.

*pokes* don't be silly. if I can draw them at all it's because you did a good job of portraying them in the first place so that I know what they're like. Care has so much depth to him just from that one picture and description of him - much more fun than a pretty shiny complicated marking'd and accessoried character that has no personality whatsoever. > P
