Description
HahahaMYFINALISFINALLYFINALLYFINISHED. *insane cackling*I'm not uploading it yet, though. The screening of our finals will take place probably some time next week, and I don't feel it fair to be uploading a copy of it to the Web before its offical 'unveiling'. I'll be watching it on my computer and hmming at it noticing all these things I want to change but can't be bothered to at present.
But for now, have a lipsync exercise! This was done ages ago, and I still love it even though I can see tons of stuff wrong with it now. Click 'Download to Desktop' to view :3
Soundclip is from Pulp Fiction. Please to be avoiding if you no likey f-words, but other than that there's nothing violent or obscene in there.

Haha.. actually, no. I'm no fonder of bassets than I was before you started asking me to draw them. I just thought that it suited the part. And bassets with NY accents would be funnnier, in my personal opinion

LAUGHING
You do know how freakin amazing you are...right?
I hate to ask but animations are foreign to me.
Did you redraw each and every frame or is there some secret Swift technique you use?

I'm glad you found it funny! I think part of me just wanted to see a basset hound saying "f*ck." x3
Thank you. Though I don't really, no. xD
Most people, when faced with a two-characters-interacting scene like this, work on layers - that is to say draw both characters on separate sheets of paper moving at their own separate paces, and then splicing them together with a little transparency provided by a light. That way if a character (such as Jules there) isn't moving for a great many frames, there's no need to redraw him over and over again. This method produces more natural movement and there's no stutter from different tracings of the same character.
Unfortunately though, this method requires intense concentration and planning and plotting which make my brain hurt, so I just did it the tedious way - tracing back Jules in his still position over and over. Watch his body and paws become more and more shapeless as the animation progresses.

Actually there are people waiting for such. Well you cant use te name pulpfiction and the idea, and dont expect to make big bucks since these films dont appeal to the masses, though it could be a cult hit.
you need a good dedicated team with a scriptwriter, and people willing to toil hours making one.

swift-whippet In reply to fieldmarshal [2006-04-25 03:25:53 +0000 UTC]
Nope, I wouldn't do that. I don't want it to be a cult hit or reinvent the movie or anything like that; my only purpose in animating it would be just to see the dogs reenacting scenes from Pulp Fiction specifically, with the voices and lines and all, just for a laugh. It would never be a serious project.

Ahhhhh SCRII YOU ALWAYS SAY NICE THINGS.
And heeeeee lipsyncing really isn't all that hard thanks to the magical thing known as an exposure sheet. You can use them to note down the accents of the syllables so you know what position to put the mouth (and the rest of the body, really) in in each frame, according to the words. I can't take any credit for that.

Thanks.
We all got to use clips from movies that the teacher provided - or we could go to a website and download them. It was so great to watch everyone's lipsyncs together - our TA put them all together on a reel and just played them through for us. SO GREAT.
PSHHHH if this is the greatest doggy animation you've ever seen I worry for the state of the industry. *bows to Lady and the Tramp and Balto and Oliver and Company*

I'd love to see your final animation ^^ Then again, will have the chance to... gulp...everyone's animations are being screened soon... *hides her VHS* >.> ... noooes...!
I'll upload my lip sync soon, going to upload it Friday- the pencil test rooms were too full last week. It's pretty funny, our class took a clip from Bill Plympton's "Hair High". It has this guy in a deep voice saying, "That's impossible. I have a postcard from you two in Mexico." xD Sounds pretty funny coming out of my little fox's mouth, and probably even funnier out of those students with baby or female characters.

Actually, scratch that--it just loaded now. Randomly. Closed down what I had open, too XD
But it't brilliant. Really--the expressions were flawless, and I love how you fit the deeper voice into the tiny little dog All-around great job. The only thing that looked odd to me was that the smaller dog seemed as if he were on an incline or higher level than the other dog. That's probably just me, though.

Aw, thanks! I'm glad you liked it, it was really fun to do Yeah, the little Basset was supposed to be slightly nearer the back than the big German Shepherd, that's why he looks higher up. But then I have a problem with keeping things on a straight line anyway, so yeah. xDDD

SO FREAKY AWESOMMMMEEEE. The voices make me laugh too. NUMNIMMNNUMMM. You will go so far...ahhh.....
I have tried animation, but failed miserably. It is quite hard, and with a pretty complex scene like that, it's awesome. :3 I bet getting the dogs' mouths to move in time with the recording took some time and skill.
Haha I'd have to have brain damage to not fave this.

D'aww Thanks Giddy :3 I'm really glad you like it! It wasn't entirely difficult for me because I can see scenes playing out in my head and as long as I have that I can more or less draw and animate it. It was a challenge to get a feel for movement and things of course, but I love it.

Thank you, Kaycie!
It took me a few days (the weekend, namely).. analysing the track to figure out in what position to put the mouth and body of each character according to the syllables took about an hour, and the actual animating took maybe two, three days among my other work. There were only about 120 frames/drawings, so it wasn't too bad.

You have talent. LOADS AND HEAPS of talent. That animation is incredible, so smooth, the sync is perfect, and the emotions in both characters are captured SO well, I love the choice of breeds (it reminds me of All Dogs Go To Heaven ^^) Oh my god.... I can't get over this. I just watched it about 15 times xD It's absolutely wonderful..... wow, I can't seem to say anything meaningful, it's just AWESOME MAN!!!!! Awesome!!!!!! O_O I could watch this for the rest of my life xD GREAT JOB SWIFT!!!!!!!!! ^^

You're too kind to me, Flann :3 And ha, I only noticed the All Dogs similarities after I'd animated about half of it, funnily enough xD it was therapeutic, really, because I happened to be waiting about in the basement of my dorm for something (long story) and on my off-days I'd just be there animating the whole day. I enjoyed working on this totally, and I'm glad you like it so much!
