Holy woah~~ <33 I wish I had this much spare time, lawl. Dusty has such an endearing face.. ;w; I'd probably freak out if I ever saw a double-muscled animal, particularly a little dog, but you make him look so lovable~ ;w;

"this much spare time"? o_O I did these in about ten minutes, rounded up. Animators draw fast! xD not to mention I was drawing them in between my other homework, too. drawing and quick sketches are like 'breaks' to me.

whippets are medium sized dogs, I don't think they're all that tiny. xD but thank you, I think it's because I love my characters so it shows through in my drawings thanks Toasti!

Wow, really? xD Lulz, you're super prolific then.. wow. owo I'm *very* impressed~~

<33 Lawl, yeah.. it's hard to draw even the most hideous characters (not whippets, lawl.. xD Like mutants) hideously when you love them to death. No prob~~ :333

as an animator, drawing is pretty much my life. :3 and the looser and rougher and faster you draw the better. animation school really taught me how to loosen up and capture the essence of the thing in simple lines without super-detail, and that is something I will always be grateful I learnt here. the trick is to feel rather than think about where to put the lines -- the minute you start thinking of it in a technical way the right side of your brain shuts off and you may have a well-done DRAWING, but that lacks life. even though rough drawings are simple, the energy is caught I think. I realise now that it was the way I always wanted to draw as a child, though I was never able to put it into words until now. :3 thank you again! <3

Awh.. :'DDD I want to take an animating class now.. I'd love to find the middle ground between capturing motion and doing crappy little doodles, lawl.. xD My polished drawings are usually pretty "technical," as far as tediously choosing the lie of each line rather than just spinning it out of my head. x3;; But yeah.. I've always envied people like you and Luckywolf who can translate life onto paper that way.. O:! Maybe ten-second models would help?

And no problem~~ <333 *Cling*

well, try doing some drawings where you do concentrate on the feeling rather than the line of the drawing! just for fun, like. I find them a lot of fun to do and just good practice in general. I had done realism before by copying from photos and life, and that did something for me by training my eye to look at things and reproduce them on paper, but loosening up and worrying less about 'correct' placement of lines was such a welcome change. I do think my understanding of anatomy, form and hand-eye coordination did help a lot though so I guess it's really just a matter of balancing it all. and I LOVE short poses in lifedrawing class, my drawings always come out looking so much better for whatever reason xD

*goes to visit Luckywolf* o.o a fellow animatorperson! apparently that is what does it. xD

*Typing with one hand to keep gecko warm* xD That sounds logical.. It's sort of like.. I really want to take a drafting and maybe anatomy class at school so I can understand the technical parts better, but I'd also like to take some sort of gestural art class just so I'm not stuck in technical-art mode. D8 But I have no idea how I'd work it into my schedule.. For some reason they think I need ten calculus classes to determine the course of my life. .0. *Idea* Zomg, my screensaver is a slideshow of pictures... owo I could practice my people sketches sometime..

Yep~! :'D Seems like it.. I wish I could animate, lawl.

Oooh, very nice. Somehow you manage to take Dust and remove me from my pity for him - he's not pitying himself, and he just looks like a cheerful dog. =]

I love how you can fold the lithe, graceful whippets into such charmingly rounded laying positions! It's like magic!

<3 that's him exactly, thank you.

hey, they fold themselves! [link] I just try to capture that folding effect! xD

/laughs

We should totally make an infomercial.

"Large enough to hug, and yet easily foldable into storage size for sleeping! Look cute in winter jackets!"

(For those who don't know me and are randomly skimming comments, I do -not- advocate dogs as "products". It's just a joke, just a joke.)

Is Regan the one with the nice long-fluffed ears? And a bully whip-is that the chunier whippie? Can't say I'm familiar with them. He seems like a rather personable fellow. Curious.

swift-whippet In reply to kettish [2007-12-13 05:17:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, indeed that is Regan! she is an Irish Setter/khalag tazi hound mix. and a skank. xD

yes, Golddust is my Bully Whippie. [link] bully whippets are the result of a myostatin mutation that causes abnormal muscle growth. it's a recessive condition, and dogs can lead relatively normal lives, but there are still health conditions involved and breeders are rightly trying to breed away from them.

kettish In reply to swift-whippet [2007-12-13 05:58:12 +0000 UTC]

Oooh. She's a pretty skank though. Always good to have for skankdom.

Ah, ok, I see. There's a human condition that's similar unless I miss my mark. It's good that they're trying to breed away from it. Wish they'd thought to do that a while back with hip dysplasia in German Shepherd dogs!

Is is specific to whippets, or is it a problem with other breeds? Just other sighthounds perhaps? Now I'm curious. *laughs*

Ooh, I forgot-found out I can't have my puppy because he's part GSD. The apartments I live in are really GAY and have breed specific restrictions. So I'm going to work with a local shelter and just foster dogs for a while. That's gonna be better for me financially anyway... Still disappointed about that.

swift-whippet In reply to kettish [2007-12-13 06:29:52 +0000 UTC]

I know! I needed a skanky character and she conveniently appeared. xD

yes it is. it also appears in racing greyhounds, beef cattle and mice, though it might have appeared in others too that I don't know of. it only affects the racing lines, though, because if there is only one copy of the myostatin mutation gene, the increased muscle development actually leads to a dog that runs faster than one without the mutation. it's only when there are two copies of the mutated gene that the abnormal bulking up happens. -> [link]

WHAT. D: that is so stupid. poor puppy, I hope that he finds a good home. BSL is suck.

kettish In reply to swift-whippet [2007-12-13 07:29:28 +0000 UTC]

I know it's retarded. *glowers* I'm going to find a way to get active about that shit. It's ridiculous. And in the meantime I'll just find a way to annoy the apartment owners and make them wish they'd just let me have my puppy. *evil grin*

...or not. Might just work on the BSL thing. *laughs* *sigh* I really was looking forward to having Miller.

Ah ha, I thought I'd heard of it in other species! And that makes a lot of sense actually; it's a codominance sort of thing I think. That's fascinating...*goes into dork mode* I'd like to know how that works exactly...*runs off to research*

I love your doodles. The Dusty ones are especially good. You've really gotten his anatomy down. I've done some doodles of him, but none of them have been very good.

By the way, I'm listening to "Cold Hard Bitch" right now. XD I finally got some money to buy it.
