APPEARANCE ⟹ A stubby-legged, stocky dromaeus, Igneous has a very confused expression on his face at all times like he’s thinking about something. He has spines mostly fixed on his back and shoulders which detach when they’re pricked into something, making him look odd when large clumps of them get taken away in a crowd. He has four toes on his frontal limbs with thick claws, while he has five long toes on the back that resemble a porcupine’s. Igneous has a clump of long fur and feathers on his neck and tail, where more, shorter spines are located. His snout is stumpy and he has large nostrils which are only slightly smaller than his eyes. His wings have feathers at the top along the limb, though the translucent membrane is more prominent. Igneous, like most dromaeus, has finger claws, though his wings aren’t all fingers like a bat’s. Two of what look like fingers are just bone spurs to help create a proper wing shape for him to liftoff. He has a mild bead of fur on his jaw and chin, like his brothers.
He has a rather dark pelt with oil-like iridescence along his chest, tail, and around his face. Most of it is dark blue-black, though there are some streaks of yellow on the fur on his neck, back, and tail. His scales are dark gray, along with the tip of his snout. The scales on his wings are also dark gray, though there is a faint iridescence on his wing membrane. His spines are black and look like they’ve been dipped in oil. Igneous’ eyes are black, and purple paint rests on his lower eyelid.
He shuffles along instead of walking and when scared, his spines raise above his head. When in doubt, check the floor for trembling spike balls.
SIZE CLASS ⟹ Small
WEIGHT CLASS ⟹ Bulky
PERSONALITY ⟹
Igneous, since he had hatched, always loved helping his older brothers. Granted, since he’s quite small at the moment, they usually left him to pick up little scraps or ‘help’ them carry a huge box that he’s not actually touching at all. In the instances he decides to interact with someone other than Guppy, Igneous does do his best to help with whatever they’re doing, even if they don’t notice him at first. This also comes talon-in-talon with his polite nature, being taught by his-not-so-polite brothers that being mean is only a way to get into fights, and Igneous never wants to get into a fight with those bigger avus. The nicer he is, the less he has to be scared, right? Being younger, Igneous is very curious about the world around him. Not so much politics and avus themselves, but the environment. He’s eager to learn about plants and animals, always trying to ask new questions about them.
With his size and insistence from his brothers that ‘he doesn’t need to talk to anyone other than them’, the young dromaeus is actually quite shy. While he does his best to be polite, his mind usually blanks out while listening to someone so he just runs and hides somewhere. Igneous can’t bring himself to go anywhere public or even outside of his home, partially due to fear that he might be squashed, and mostly due to him not doing well in social environments. He doesn’t often understand avus’ jokes, and gets very confused because he thinks they’re speaking literally. Being so young and having now flunked out of school entirely, Igneous isn’t exactly smart. He’s not dumb by any means, but if you asked him to explain something then he wouldn’t be able to do that. He currently relies on helpful strangers to provide for him, though now that he isn't in such a lovely, protective community as the Mountains, he has grown to just ask anyone he can for a bite to eat, regardless to the required compensation.
Due to infractions from his brothers and hammered in teachings from when he was younger, Igneous is skittish around other Avus, and even moreso now that he's located in an enemy kingdom. Even though what he's done might not be considered a crime, he's certain that hitching a ride on a trader's cart and sneaking into another kingdom still is. He's extremely nervous around Nothern citizens and guards. Igneous struggles with something called sundowner's syndrome, growing ever agitated and hostile during dusk and nighttime. He can’t help it. He’s often bitten his brothers and jabbed them with his spines without thinking and immediately felt bad about it, just because they mentioned his name or walked around too loudly. Igneous has to admit, he doesn’t like it when things change. It takes him so long to get used to things being introduced to him that when it suddenly changes he doesn’t want to do anything anymore. Having one less sibling and moving to an entirely different climate are something he considers big changes. He is not doing very well right now.

BACKSTORY ⟹
NESTLING.
It was an average day for Igneous’ mother, Cobble. Her two sons had been out at the marketplace, and her husband was at home, tending to their houseplants. She had suspected that her newest child would be hatching soon and had been staying home often. She didn’t want her nestling to freeze before she got to meet him! It turned out that she suspected correctly, as little Igneous, named for his pelt’s resemblance to obsidian, hatched later that evening. He doesn’t quite remember, but his mother quickly left the room to alert Notch that he’d hatched. But hatching was so.. Exhausting. Maybe he could take a little nap, first.
He never saw his parents again, and only knows of his brothers being his guardians.
FLEDGELING.
Igneous had recently started school and flight lessons, though he never wanted to leave his home to do so. He’d always cling to Stalagmite, begging for him to just stay home and not be out with the other scary fledglings and such. He didn’t often like being away from home, but when he did, it was usually because he was out in the flora. He even begged his brothers to get him a potted plant once, which they did. Once, then four times. They got him a large, hollowed gourd for him to put another plant in once he turned eight, which he promptly tried to eat thinking that it was a snack that he was very happy about. It wasn’t, and now there is a large bite mark in the gourd. The plant that lives there doesn’t seem to mind, though.
Igneous found that even if he was a tad young, his brothers expected plenty from him. Being able to walk himself to class, make his own food, and feed his own pets when he couldn’t even reach their food box.. Igneous had to get used to it, though. He remained oblivious to just how outlandish their demands were until he was found sneaking an extra slice of pie from the table. They were not happy with him, caught with a face full of apple and pie crust. Knowing well that he couldn’t fly and was afraid of heights, they deemed that the only rightful option was to put him in a tree outside for the rest of the night.
Igneous screamed, cried, and tried to bite his way out of their grasp, but they got him up there and walked back inside. At first, he thought it was a sick joke, but when the chill of Upper Preyma’s nights finally came he realized that they were not joking about leaving him there at all. He bit the branch, angry that he’d caused this. If he didn’t go in for another slice without asking, he could be in his bed, right? Yes, this was all his fault! His angry mumbles were drowned away in the wind and he eventually fell asleep, having to stay there in fear of falling if he moved too weirdly. They took him down in the morning and he apologized, but they didn’t say anything about leaving him there.
Igneous grew to understand that doing anything out of line in the slightest way would resulting getting put in the tree. Forgetting to feed the fish? Tree. Crying for a very valid reason? Tree without a doubt. Getting upset that Stalagmite rummaged through his room when he was out at school and made a mess of everything? Into the tree with Igneous! Oh, he hated it! He wasn’t getting over his fear in any form, the cold night simply making him more afraid of being somewhere high. What if he fell, and cried out for his brothers to help him? They wouldn’t care until the sun had risen and he had accepted his fate! Meeting Birch after being dragged along on a trip he didn’t want to go on was probably the highlight of his last months as a fledgeling. Birch was nice. His brothers didn’t talk to him like family, only like he was a burden. And that gryphus didn’t do that. He didn’t want to leave, but eventually, he had to go back home.
During a family dinner, Igneous tried his best to come out as a demiroo, explaining to his brothers that he liked both He and They pronouns. They didn’t seem to notice- or maybe they were just ignoring him in hopes that he stopped talking. Well he didn’t, trying to get them to notice by standing on the table and announcing it. Stalactite smacked his paws rather roughly, which alarmed the other two at the table. Igneous sat back down, but didn’t forget. He doesn’t really mention his gender around his siblings anymore.
SUB-ADULT
After catching the fire dancer, Sundial’s, show about a harpy he fought who was made out of fire, Igneous was walking back home with his brothers. They were chatting about how ‘totally bullshit’ the story was and how ‘dumb it was that he spent his time doing that.’ Igneous didn’t like how they talked about others in public and tried to fall behind to appear like he wasn’t with them. A vendor caught his eye, selling foods that he’d never heard of before. Using his birthday money, he purchased some stew made with kangaroo or something of the sort. It was delicious, but he was now very lost from his brothers.
He knew how to get back home, but didn’t know if it was worth going there now instead of finding his siblings. Igneous decided that he would rather take being berated than getting even more lost, and skedaddled back home as fast as his uneven legs would take him. He hadn’t yet mastered long-distance flight and opted for running since even though he knew how to take off it was still not one of his strengths. Entering their home, he nervously waited for his brothers to return. Were they looking for him? Were they actually worried? It made him feel both better and worse the longer they took, but they eventually came back. They held food and were laughing, though looked surprised to see Igneous at home. “When did you get home? We thought you were behind us the whole time.” Wow. Comforting. Igneous was hurt. They knew that he liked food, and if they didn’t realize he was gone then that meant they didn’t even offer him any, or ask if he wanted to buy some with his money. They didn’t understand why he ran back to his room crying and didn’t seem to care.
Igneous declared that they were no longer his friends. Friends cared for each other, and while he cared for his siblings, they did not care for him. He struggled through some amount of months- Queen Reprise kept managing to find her way into his brother's conversations, leaving them even more divided than they'd started out. She banned the Gryphus from entering the Mountains, and Igneous simply couldn't tolerate listening to his brothers argue anymore. He began sneaking out at night to talk to his pet fish more frequently, and became even more silent around them than he'd ever been.
Though, for better, or for worse, it seemed he wouldn't have to listen to an argument again. It was some time since the original incidents, but Igneous had finally decided he was going to move to the North. The alliance had not yet been called off at that time, only receiving the news once he'd actually gotten to the border. Through a squabble, some threats that would remain unfilled, and a couple of broken wooden carvings, Igneous made a break for the exit of his brother's room, and Stalactite tried to stop him.
He refuses to even think about what happened after that, trying his dammned hardest to block it out of his memory completely.
LEGAL ADULT
Igneous moved in with Birch after everything happened and still lives with him and his father to this day. He considers them family, hoping Birch does too. From his days(once or twice) of salmon fishing with his siblings back in the Mountain kingdom, he still had quite the brain for catching equally less-keen-on-dying fish down in the North. While he himself wasn't good enough at speaking in public to sell anything he helped catch, and was nowhere near confident enough to take up an apprenticeship with anyone in town, he still liked helping around from time to time when he could. Truthfully, he felt(and still feels) quite bad about dragging Birch and his dad into everything. Even after telling them why he'd come to live with them and fled the Mountains, he couldn't help but feel they were doing it out of awkward obligation. It was hard to turn away some kid crying, right?
And Igneous is not a fledgling anymore. He just knows his time to leave is approaching is he's nervously awaiting the day. Not to mention the heating up in the political climate of his kingdom. It was some time before he found anything resembling an apprenticeship or a job, but taken under the wing of a less-than-polite roo, Set, he began to train as a guard for hire. Hopefully things would keep on positively for him, in the North.

ENEMIES
Stalagmite, when he got back home. Igneous knows he knows.
TRIVIA ⟹
Both me, the player of Igneous, and Igneous himself have Sun Downer’s Syndrome : ) I thought that if I was gonna lean a bit more into making him based on me like Locust was supposed to be, that would be something notable lol.(However, unlike him I can control my tone even though I am very upset,,)
We also don’t like talking to people irl,, it’s scary.
Igneous has pricked himself (at least)once on his own spikes.
Igneous’ favorite food is squash. Any gourd is fine with him, though.
Igneous' og form was intersex, as I am, but since Locust is already intersex igneous had to take the L, as per my own character rules lmao
