Swiftgaia stepped through the moonlit forest, the familiar path leading him to Fluttershy’s cozy cottage. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine and dew-kissed leaves.

His heart fluttered with anticipation; after being gone on an expedition the Emerald Whisper Grove, a lush rainforest where the leaves shimmer like emeralds, and the air hums with secrets, for 3 days, he is looking forward to some quality time with his beloved marefriend.

The cottage stood nestled among tall trees, its warm glow spilling from the windows. He entered, but Fluttershy wasn’t there to greet him with her gentle smile like she usually does.He called out her name, but the only response was the echo of his own voice. The silence hung heavy, broken only by the distant hoot of an owl. Swiftgaia’s worry grew. Where could she be?

As if in answer, a rustling sound reached his ears. He spun toward the window, peering into the moonlit garden. At first, he saw nothing, until spotting a shadow flitting behind a tree, elusive and mysterious. Swiftgaia’s zoologist instincts kicked in; curiosity drove him forward.

He retrieved a flashlight from the shelf, its beam cutting through the darkness. The garden came alive, the flowers, the grass, and the gnarled roots of ancient oaks. And there, behind the twisted trunk of an apple tree, stood the elusive figure.

His breath caught as he approached her. It was a pony, but not just any pony. Flutterbat, half Fluttershy, half bat, chewing on a crimson apple. Her wings were leathery and wide, her eyes glinting with feral intensity. She hissed, revealing sharp fangs, when she turned her head back to see him. Swiftgaia’s heart raced as he staggered back. She walked over to him, like a predator about to claim their prey.

“Wait!” Swiftgaia’s voice trembled. “It’s me… Swiftgaia. Remember, honey?”

Flutterbat hesitated, her eyes narrowing. Recognition flickered, and then her pupils widened. She dropped the half-eaten apple and leaped toward him. Her wings enfolded him, soft and velvety, and she nuzzled his cheek with affection.

He laughed, relief flooding his veins. “You scared me half to death, Fluttershy.”

She nuzzled him again, her purring vibrating through his chest. Swiftgaia sat up, and she settled behind him, her bat-like wings cocooning them both. The moon bathed them in silver, and he felt her warmth against his back.

"Fluttershy?" he asked. "What happened to you?"

She hissed, her eyes pleading. Words eluded her, trapped in the form of primal sounds. Swiftgaia’s heart ached; he understood. Fluttershy was lost in this nocturnal guise, unable to express herself fully.

He cradled her face, brushing his thumb over her cheek. “We’ll find a way to bring you back, my love,” he vowed. “I won’t rest until you’re Fluttershy again.”

Flutterbat’s eyes softened, gratitude shining through. She pressed her forehead against his, and he felt her silent plea. Help me.

Swiftgaia kissed her, a way of giving comfort in her predicament, pouring all his determination into that moment. Not many would kiss a batpony, but his love for her knew no bounds.

And so they sat, wrapped in each other’s wings, beneath the ancient apple tree.
