The BR Standard version of the LMS' Ivatt 4MT mogul was produced in three different variants, the 2-6-0, the 2-6-4, and the 4-6-0, seen here. Designed by Robin Riddles at Brighton Works, with help from Derby, Swindon, and Doncaster, the 80 members of the class built at Swindon between 1951 and 1957. They were then distributed across the network to the London Midland, Western, and later Southern Region, and none were allocated to the Northeastern or Scottish Regions. Withdrawals began in 1964, and they were among the handful of classes to survive into the very last year of British Railways steam in 1968. Six are preserved today, with two of them currently operational.
