Description The K class 2-6-4 tanks were the last engines built for the Metropolitan Railway. Six of these engines were built by Armstrong Whitworth and co using parts from the Woolwich Arsenal, the same factory which built the N and U class engines for the Southern Railway. In 1933, the Metropolitan Railway was absorbed into the London Passenger Transport Board, which had an agreement with the LNER to operate steam services north of Rickmansworth in London, and all of the Metropolitan Railway's engines were sold to the LNER in 1937. The L2s, as they were reclassified, continued to serve until withdrawals began in 1943 due to nonstandard boilers.  Two continued in service until Nationalization, however, they were withdrawn in late 1948. None survive to this day.
