Now each of the Scottish Twins had destroyed the same pair of buffers due to circumstances out of their control. Sir Topham Hatt wondered how to make this a teaching moment.

"I'm terribly sorry." Sir Topham Hatt told the foreman of the gangers who were painting the now destroyed buffers. "Do understand that this was the result of a series of freak accidents, and Douglas and his twin have both been given warnings to be careful."

"I hope so." Said the foreman. "I know, why don't you leave that paint on his nose!" Sir Topham Hatt agreed, and Douglas was made to keep the splotch of red paint on his nose for several days as a reminder of his carelessness...
