Description
Finally, I've completed the Trifecta of the London, Brighton, and South Coast Railway's 0-6-0 freight engines with the C2 and C2X. The C2 was designed by R.J Billinton and 55 were built between 1893 and 1902 by the Vulcan Foundry. The C2s were designed to replace the aging Stroudley C1 class, though were of roughly of the same size and power output. Billinton's successor, Marsh rebuilt 29 before his retirement using C3 boilers, then L.B Billinton rebuilt three more with double domed boilers, and after that the Southern Railway rebuilt nine more after the Grouping. The class was used on secondary freight trains throughout the former LBSCR system and were classified 2F by BR upon nationalization. The originals were all withdrawn by 1950, but the rebuilds lasted 12 years longer, the last two of them going in 1962, both having completed more than one and a quarter million miles by the time of their withdrawal, but none were preserved. While no actual locomotives were preserved, one C2X tender chassis is being used to build the tender for H2 atlantic 32424 Beachy Head, which is under construction at the Bluebell Railway.Related content

This is it. I've already done a C1 and a C3 here.
