Description I really challenged myself for ZERO post-work on this one. I hope it is every bit as sharp and punchy as everything else I try and do!

Excellent job! The sharpness kind of reminds me of MD3D works (real fractals, not flames). Thanks for sharing this at The-FractalBest!

Thanks a lot! I was incredibly impressed with how this one turned out, and I have never seen anything like it from a 2D fractal

Wow--some fine work Alex---Looks like a cross of snake scales and leopard fur--
It can be a battle pulling light into a flame that wants to stay dark
when you are trying to keep it totally Raw.

Thank you so much! And it indeed can be a battle! I have actually been lowering the gamma, increasing the brightness, and increasing the saturation just as a way of habit now. It produces much more appealing results IMHO. At least if I need to do some post now, it's not so much!

I also have learned that gamma is to be used with care---good for printing but clouds and dulls the color.
I  sometimes render  with  and without --- very different results in post--some times take sections on both
flames and blend them with some very interesting outfall (outfall--good word for the way I sometimes work) LOL

Well, everything I do is an outfall of what JWildfire gives me. This very piece was actually a many generation, MutaGen creation; Of course, with my somewhat limited knowledge of variation ability coming into play here. I also of course adjusted persepctives, coloring, ect. I often set gamma to 2 now. I feel it adds the perfect contrast that was lacking in my images before. It's different for every fractal though!

It's different for every fractal though!
That's what makes it sooo much fun

Beautiful piece. I have never used JWildfire after looking at some of your work I may have to give it a try.

Thanks, man! I actually have very limited fractaling knowledge myself. So this is kind of a showcase of what JWildfire can do too! It's actually a many, many generation "MutaGen" creation, and of course with a lot of my knowledge in setting up the "scene," as well as what variations produce will produce what shapes/results. I do give myself some credit at least.

After seeing your work I am interested in JWildfire. The fractal program and hardware we use are only tools just like paint and a brush. If you look at my site you will find I work in many mediums and I think of them as all the same. It is what we bring to the table as artists that allows the art to happen.

Very nice perspective! I like that a lot! I consider myself more a "photographer" in the fractal landscape than anything. I think some fractalists around here truly work in a way that could be considered akin to what would be done on a canvas with a paint brush. People like me just enjoy creating fantastic imagery for myself and other people to (hopefully) enjoy! It's incredibly fun for me to say the least! It brings me great joy, and I am constantly learning new things at my own pace.

You nailed it with the "photographer" comparison. However we are photographers who design the landscape we explore. What is more exciting then that? Checkout my journal. I talk a bit about this and how I approach the fractal creations. eccoton.deviantart.com/journal… I have been making art seriously for over 40 years now. I never seem to lack new inspiration and mediums to explore. I am also mostly self taught but now I have the privilege of sharing this with my students as an art professor. From the business world to art professor what an amazing unexpected journey it has been. It all began for me at the age of 5 with my first camera. So all my art comes from the perspective of a "photographer".

Great article! I must say I actually downloaded Mandelbulb3D for the first time last night at work, and I only got a few minutes to look at it. I had that "I want to bash my head in" feel I got from when I first tried Apophysis. JWildfire has been the only fractal program to date that has really clicked with me. Now that I am on a new computer, I will most certainly be exploring more fractal programs, including Mandelbulb3D. I see some truly incredible scenes coming out of this ]program, and I am always amazed by them. I know people aren't creating things like this from scratch persay, like some people can do in 2D fractals, but that doesn't make a difference to me. It's the exploration, perspective, color, and the final tweaks in photo editing software that can really make all the difference!

Have fun and be patient. If you have any questions let me know. Actually you do pretty much start from scratch. If you check out my journal you will see the diversity of the types of images you create. They all begin from the default Mandelbrot set, so you will see it is pretty much start from ground zero but where you take it is up to the artist and your experience with the program. fav.me/d7h2r3o

You should be proud of this one, it is amazing.  And just as you said on my latest post, this looks a great deal better here than on Facebook.

Thanks a lot, Jane! And yeah, Facebook is totally terrible for viewing detailed things, but it's better than it used to be at least!
