Another batch of old kaiju sprites.

This time the sibling duo from the cult classic Toho film 'War of the Gargantuas', known in Japan as Gaira (Green Gargantua) and Sanda (Brown Gargantua), the kaiju version of the 'Cain and Abel' legend, or maybe Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis would be a more apt comparison?

Their film is meant to be, (in Japan at least) in a rare example for Toho at that point, a direct sequel of sorts to the previous year's 'Frankenstein Conquers the World' involving a giant-sized version of the legendary monster. Due to the circumstances of this size upgrade (involving atomic radiation), this 'Frankenstein' had amazing regenerative abilities. With the Gargantuas, it was realized just how amazing that is, as both creatures were 'born' from various remains of their 'father' that basically spawned life of their own... creating brand new creatures.

Sanda, the brown one, and older of the two... was a gentle creature (like, in many ways, his 'father') while his sibling, Gaira was more of a monstrous predator born (presumably) from the corpse of the Frankenstein monster that somehow washed out to sea ('somehow' in that there's two different endings for the previous movie). Growing up in such an environment without much human contact, he views humans as nothing more than food, and it's this circumstance that eventually leads to conflict between two soon after meeting.

The connections between the two movies was pretty much non-existent in the America version, more or less.

I made these sprites using 'Atomic Guy' from King of Monsters 2. I can't remember if I just custom-made the faces or used something else. It's been a LONG time since I made these. The process is similar to how I made the 'Colossal Titan ' though. I'm quite happy with how Gaira turned out, still to this day, but still not 100% pleased with Sanda.
