Description Donno if this is a good thing ... or a bad thing :z .... I mean ~ daily updates three days in a row? I must be having too much free time ...

Well, just goes to show you how obsessed I must be XD

Quick doddle I made in class that I wished to color, so forgive me if I made some mistakes concerning Basil's design. If you ask me, he looks a bit ... feminine ... And though I know that his trusty pipe should have been in his hand instead of that cup of tea, I just couldn't bring myself to add it. As for the scene ... for some reason I was always picturing something similar to this one when ever I would hear of A Study in Scarlet, so since I already started this madness ... why not? I'm still obsessed after all.

Ok ... once again, I'm going to bed, so enough of my rabling and enjoy ^^

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

Your GMD art continues to amaze me, and here is another piece doing just that.

Vision: Softness to the subject and objects bring out the drawing as more of a simple, almost live-action scene. Dark shadows are plentiful here, a shame when I long to see so much more of him and the surrounding furniture. The angle of the chair and having two table ends was never seen in the film nor any fan art piece. Basil doesn't look feminine. He actually looks bed worn with the uncombed strands of fur on his head. Though, wearing his Inverness coat indicates he must have just recently come home and didn't bother to get comfortable in his housecoat. Mrs. Judson provided a cup of tea and he immediately began reading the paper when finding something of interest. There's something sliding down next to the arm of the chair and it doesn't look like the hem of his coat. He'd be sitting on that. It looks like a blanket that he applied to the lower half of his body. 4.5 for the realism, but for longing to see more than what's hiding in the shadows.

Originality: Basil sitting in his chair is nothing new, but once more, this particular scene has never been done before. Holding a tea cup is extremely different, too. As you said, you wanted to put that in instead of his pipe, and I actually prefer it. As one who has health kicks now and then, I'd rather him have something that's good for him and won't ruin the lungs! 5.0 for making Basil healthy in this one. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)" />

Technique: The shadows are hiding so much detail, but from what I can see, you've done so much in making this as realistic as you can. The illumination of the lamp, the light reflecting on only a few sections of Basil and the objects is a nice touch of effects. His striped wallpaper is excessively red when it's usually green, and yet, another guess here is you're using such a color when having 'Scarlet' in the title! There are a lot of shades of red here, not just on the wall, too. 5.0 for the use of shades/effects/lighting.

Impact: This is another cozy atmosphere you've done with Basil. This one focuses on a relaxing evening at home with the newspaper and some refreshments. One can almost smell the aroma of the tea, heat of the lamp, and oldness of the furniture. 5.0 for delivering another humble and calm scene for the detective.

WOW.
just that little lamp... or chemestry thing lights the room.
this effect is simple, but i think very hard to paint, and interesting.

i love!

hmm... murder? blackmail? kidnapping? burglary? "middle-aged yet purely rich lady seeking young, caring yet un-wishing of my money so he may have no reason to poison me in order to get it kind of man to become my companion"? or maybe just "Upon question, all Detective Chief Inspector Vole had to say was "DAMN YOU TO THE SEVEN CIRCLES OF HELL, BASIL!""?

Or better yet... a news article about Ratigan getting arrested... oh wait, he died, so that defeats the purpose of that guess.

Thank you soo much!
It was fun toying along with Disney works (their style is simply gorgeous when on screen and when everything's moving ... but as a stand-still picture they are a bit ... "flat" - so I added my own personal touch to it XD )

I'm happy you like it!

Basil doen't look feminine, rather either exhausted or, he just finally got to a nice, cozy place, where he wishes to never be interrupted. Either way, great job!

i cannot stop being amazed at your photoshop skills ^^ T___T everytime i try it just end up in failure sadly even if i try hard...

i feel some sort of very calming and relaxing aura coming from it ^^

we can really be drawn to the center of the image with all the detail and the darker part of the drawing that make us focus on the lighter part ^^

really amaxing job as always

and thank you very much for the critics ^^ much appreciated

My teacher is always saying that I need to add "more contrast!" to my works ... so I guess that I'm finally listening to him XD

And as for my photoshop skills ... I would ask "what skills?" All I do is kind of the result of countless hours of staring at amazing other works that over-flood the DA galleries and my own personal obsession for using the "Gaussian blur" filter and constantly playing with layer modes and opacity XD (TRY IT! - You can play with it for HOURS!!!)

And you're most welcome ^^ As long as I can find words for your works, you can always count on me to leave you one
