I felt I needed to brush up on my expressions, so I used the 25 Essential Expressions Challenge sheet ( napalmnacey.deviantart.com/art… ) and a mirror so I could get some practice, and decided to use my character Ro from Affinity, so I basically am killing two birds with one stone. Eh... I still need more practice.

i think the confused one hould have the character leaned back, not leaned forward.
and the ill/nauseous looks a bit like shes just hungry and looking at food

I really like the eyebrows and have never really seen anything like them. How they connect to the eyelashes is really cool. Keep up the good work... not that I can say anything since I'm the most lazy being in the universe.

Sycra, I can recommend "The artist's complete guide to facial expression" by Gary Faigin on that topic. A great book about expressions and their anatomical foundations, like the facial muscles and such. Helped me alot concerning facial expression and also face anatomy.

I've seen the book, but it seems to be geared toward realism, and I didn't find it as helpful when applying it to a very stylized face.

Yes, the actual drawing tips and face anatomy parts tend to go more in the direction of realism, but it is really helpful regarding rather difficult emotional states like someone acting happy while actually beeing sad and not exaggerating it to much, but expressing the emotion through fine details, like a glaring of the eye or it beeing a little wider than usual. This can be really powerful, especially in stylized art, because what i often see is that many people exaggerate the emotional signs too much to really strike the viewer emotionially, but just throw the emotion at their face obviously. When that happens we tend to compare this face to other stylized faces we have seen instead of reality, which makes its effect more indirect and thus has less emotional impact.

the overall pointyness, the "pointy as a friggin needle chin" and the eyes are the things that stand out the most, for me atleast
