a sort of speed-painting, I suppose......for me, at least. I wasn't nearly as meticulous as I tend to be. made it over two days. I actually did pretty much everything except the face in the last hour. whoopee. I'm not too proud of this one, but I need to increase the size of my gallery, and it was good practice, so here ya go. I hope you like it.(could you tell I got extremely lazy towards the end? thought I'd disguise my laziness with a nifty contrast between realism and minimalism........)
the model is my friend (and the drummer in the band I'm sort of in) Jalnar. she is gloriously beautiful. I don't think this painting really does her justice

of course I don't mind. while I remain pathetically unpopular here on deviantART, I always respond to every comment I receive, and with nearly equal care. :]
as for what "concoction" I used, I must ask if you know that this is a digital portrait -- hence, no color mixing was involved. I realized after painting this that I should have used more than the three colors I used, simply to render it more interestingly.. I used HIGHLY saturated tones: mostly, oranges and yellows for midtones, browns and even reds for shadows, and white for ridiculously bright highlights. for this color scheme, I found it best to stick with a red --> orange --> yellow --> white gradation (of course, only use white for bright highlights).
..I hope that was at least somewhat helpful.

There are a lot of artists nowadays that make traditional art resemble digital art.

But that does help quite a bit. Stick with the warm colors.
