Description
"If that tree was planted at the warm springs, how did it get here?"Next on the list is 1966's The Navy vs The Night Monsters! Pretty funny how I got the two of the three plant monsters right near each other. Even better, just like the Woman Eater, I wasn't sure how I wanted to tackle this one either. The reference images were pretty unclear for this movie as well, especially with the classic trope of a wildly different looking design on the posters. Luckily, what I could see what a fairly simple flower shape, so I figured I'd work off of that for the final design. So again I looked up various flowers and took to Pinterest for inspiration.
Now, ordinarily when I do these redesigns, the details from the plot summary are quite fresh in my head, helping guide some of my decisions. I realize now, rechecking the summary for this upload, I actually completely forgot a few details when I was doing the design. For example, the plants coming from Antarctica; that never crossed my mind once. This was mostly because, in hindsight, I was designing these from the ground up as if they came from TriZen's island of Zengalla. So because of that, I designed something more tropical. As for the design itself, it's a pretty large overhaul. I gave them the petal and pistils of a lily, with a thorny stem like a rose. Then some nice autumn colored leaves for contrast and some mangrove like roots. Unlike the original design, I wanted these to be relatively fast distance killers, using their roots to amble along while they fire large acid coated thorns from their stigma. They can also fire all the thorns from their stem if approached, though this leaves them vulnerable. All in all, this may be my favorite plant monster I've designed yet!
