Aka the Day of Avayu part 2, the one where Rayu discovers bright red sap is a good stand-in for paint. Honestly, I think I did best on this one out of them all- the background is far from perfect and some of the shading is a bit dodgy, but overall I think it looks good! I went for brighter, more intense lighting and shading on this one and I used yellow and green this time round. Sketchy trees are sketchy, background hills are... just don't look at them.

They'd been wandering the fields and hills for hours now, where they were going of no importance as long as they were with each other, but finally they meandered to a stop on a gentle slope. The day was idyllic and warm, a first hopeful spurt of spring. Grass was brightening and leaves were budding, but flowers and insects were yet to be seen this early in the year.

One of Avani's butterflies fluttered past Rayu's nose and she smiled. Most insects were yet to be seen this early. Apparently, Avani's semi-magical cloud of them could and would appear as soon as the air was warm enough to support them. With the sap she produced, they need never fear starvation no matter the season. "Is it always butterflies?" she asked, suddenly curious. Avani shifted and Rayu glanced up at her. Avani's face had a slight shadow over it that hadn't been there before.

"Not always," she sighed, looking away. Rayu's eye was drawn to a streak of sap that curved down Avani's leg from her shoulder. It almost looked like... "Sometimes it's bees, or caterpillars," Avani continued, a small smile returning to her face as Rayu absentmindedly nuzzled her side. "The bees... they're usually peaceful, but sometimes... well, I'm sure you'll never see that." Avani glanced back down at Rayu with a smile that melted from her face as she was greeted with wide swathes of red down her side and- and across Rayu's chest? "How-?"

Rayu slowly lowered her sap-stained paw, flush creeping across her cheeks. She knew Avani was self-conscious about her bright red markings. Had she upset her with her impulsive use of the bright red as paint? She peeked up at Avani and offered a timid little smile as Avani regarded the heart she'd painted across their bodies, and when she met Rayu's eyes again, Avani gave Rayu a warm smile in return.

Am still too lazy to count stuff, will still count later.
