Description The nomadic Berber people of North Africa built massive fortified granaries to store their belongings, particularily grain and water. The interior looks rather like a beehive with numerous storage places, the so-called ghurfas. This particular example is the Kasr Kabaw (Libya), which is estimated to be 700 years old. The white structure in the centre is a tomb to a religious man or else a very small mosque.

This looks almost like Mos Eyesly on Tatooene.

From what I read, those scenes were shot in Ajim in Tunisia, which is berber, too. Of course, Libya is a "dry" country (no alcohol), so the clients of Mos Eisley wouldn't be too happy.

That is such a cool structure! I'm imagining it with all the balconies and staircases in tact.

A tomb? That is fascinating - were there any inscriptions associated with it? Thanks for sharing!

Thanks. No inscription that I am aware of, and I could not find the man's name anywhere. I usually take pictures of epigraphical nature, though. If there was an inscription, it would have been in Arabic, which I don't speak.
