Description This is the favorite ice age mammal of many, including me, Smilodon fatalis.
The name of Smilodon fatalis means "knife tooth", also commonly called the saber-toothed cat,
as well as previously and erroneously called the saber-toothed tiger
(because although it belongs to the Felidae family, it does not belong to the same subfamily as tigers (Pantherinae)
, but to the subfamily Machairo-dontinae)
is a genus of saber-toothed felids that originated in North and South America.
There were many types of saber-toothed cats.
All saber-toothed cats were designed to open their jaws much wider than most big cats today.
The canine teeth were saber-like, long and curved.
They hunted in packs and their prey was generally composed of mammoths, camels, horses, macrokenias, bison, toxodons,
and had rivals such as short-faced bears, megatheria, giant wolves and humans.
It is undoubtedly one of the most interesting prehistoric animals of all, and I wanted to draw it.
