Thanks, one of my all time fav's too. Have never been able to duplicate this one's clarity in other moon images; despite my efforts.

My goodness! Did you use a camera attachment for a telescope?

Also, I love this song.

It would probably would be better, as some of your critics have pointed out, with a lower ISO, but its' still a very impressive shot!

thank You. So much beauty around us...that so many often take for granted.

You are so welcome. I agree. So many people miss all of the wonder and beauty all around, to busy with their tablets and phones to stop and look at things up close. I am glad that you stop to look at the strange and beautiful world that we are in.

It's brilliant, but if you lowered the ISO settings (100 is usually suggested, but I would not fear using the lowest you can) it would be even better. Try it

Good shot Was the name based on the old saying or the Creedence Clearwater song titled 'Bad Moon Rising'?

That is an impressive shot especially because it was taken with just a bridge camera. It's great how good these little zoom monsters became.

Synari In reply to darkSoul4Life [2013-12-13 22:22:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Yea, the 50x is impressive, but it's not always sharp (without noise) at the 40-50x end of the field. I'm pretty happy with what it can do considering my budget and the fact that I don't have to worry about changing lens. It's a good bridge camera considering.

darkSoul4Life In reply to Synari [2013-12-13 22:44:30 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome. You could get a tripod and use ISO 200 for the moon which will result in less noise and a bit more details. With a high pixel density and the lens with a small aperture at it's end, diffraction starts limiting the sharpness a bit but it's still impressive what it does.

Btw I had a Canon Powershot SX1 IS at the beginning of my photography and to be honest I don't miss the focal length range from wide angle to super tele because if I need a telephoto lens I won't need an wide angle. So I don't have to worry about changing lenses, I simply pick one and have fun with it. I still have an wide angle lens always with me but I rarely need it. You seem to like to take bird photos, so I guess you mostly use it at the very long focal lengths, right?

A low budget is a big problem which I share with you. That's why I bought a five year old second hand D-SLR.

Yes, I do a lot of bird and insect/wildlife images. The major issue I have had with the sx50 is the auto focus causing delays (esp in wind) and losing the shot or needing a faster shutter speed. While I could change and adjust these things (and I can and have with the iso), I am too much of a novice to work with manual mode. I'm afraid of ruining shots. I'm dealing with some health issues that affect my ability to learn new things, esp complex ones. Thank you for all your advice and comments.

Thank You. It really is not difficult, you just need the right camera lens and a steady camera.

From amazon specs:
50x Optical Zoom (24–1200mm) and 24mm Wide-Angle lens* with Optical Image Stabilizer delivers magnificent images whether you are up close or far away.

Experience the difference that the ultra-zooming power of the PowerShot SX50 HS's 24mm Wide-Angle 50x Optical Zoom lens can make on your everyday shooting. The extraordinary focal length of 4.3–215.0mm (35mm film equivalent: 24–1200mm) lets you capture everything from wide-angle shots to super-telephoto shots from wherever you are, while every shot exhibits the unique quality inherent to Canon optics.

This moon shot was taken at 1200mm or 50x zoom.

Well I might just pick one up instead of purchasing a fancy telephoto lens. At least for the time being, while business is slim.

When I bought mine it was an upgrade from my point and shoot panasonic lumix. I don't ever regret the purchase but I debated long between the canon powershot sx50 and the fuji finepix SL1000. The choice is yours; both are very similar. I read all the reviews on amazon.com ...not sure why I decided on the Canon over the Fuji...I think because there was feedback about better quality images from the canon at the far end of the zoom field (800-1200mm) than the fuji.

Ahh thanks for the tip. Plus, I'm already heavily invested in Canon products, so it might help to stay compatible.
