Click DOWNLOAD for 12 Apophysis flame resources. Please credit me if you use them. I took the time to provide these for you, so its the least you can do.Download more flames and resources here: [link]
Alright guys, you've been asking for it so here it is, if you have any questions, note me!
You will need Photoshop to do this, unless you want to use your own flames, then you need Apophysis... I've provided 12 of them for you guys to work with, there yours so do with them as you wish...
TROUBLE WITH APOPHYSIS: For those who have no clue about this program, as I've said before, you set the Variation setting (top of the program) to "Spherical". Then you go through the list of flames until you see one that is of your liking, then click the "Green" play arrow, this will cycle the flame through a transformation, then click the "black" stop square when you see a shape you like. Then go to file and Export flame... save it at a high resolution. Nice looking flames can be tough to come accross, so just keep restarting the program until you find ones you like. The program is free, all you have to do is google it.
Note: the majority of my nebulae are thoroughly painted over in Photoshop, to give that extra burst of depth and shape, so if you are having trouble getting flames you like, try tweaking them over in PS with some brushes or possibly textures. Try anything and everything, it takes time, patience, and most of all, trial and error.
Regards,
Chris

(sorry comp failed and it posted early) When you render your Apo flames, what settings do you use in quality, oversampling, and such?

Now if I could only only learn to make those flames by myself, I could actually take credit from my work too ;-p

Ah thats so simple that I just didnt take it into consideration >__> It was just a doubleclick away. (Has apo but never came up with the idea to render a sphere for PS usage ...)
Thx for that inspiration

Now I make the first flames in apophysis. I am very bad in this but I try and try. The first one that I liked i rendered it into 4000x3000. Big mistake. Took about 3 hours to render. Now make them 2048x1533. It takes about 10 minutes. Nice. And this tutorial seems to be very helpfull. I think I will have problems withe the edges of the nebula. Umm will see ;]

Ok man, when you are rendering the flames, you will see a little "Play" button that looks like an arrow, after you've made it into the "Spherical setting" press that arrow and it will morph the flame, giving you more of a variety of shape See if that helps!
Yeh I render mine at 1600 xD Hate waiting haha

Soon I will render 10-12 flames at 4000x3000 and upload them here. Now I will submit my first attemt with this kind of nebula. I used your tutorial so I will wait for your opinion

I have to tell you that your tutorial is quite helpful. But I do please hope that you can find some time to make a small yet effective tutorial that teaches how to edit the raw flames rendered from apophysis to look nice and cloudy and cool like the ones already included in the tutorial. I hope that you please make one.

Helpful as shit man, so your saying you do this for all your nebulas?
(not exact same thing, but same over-all process.)

A quick question: what size do you render? 1000-1500 px take about a day I believe, and 2000+ px takes several days (well that's my computer hehe)

Makes me wish I didn't give up on Apophysis...its all too "mathematical" for me, and thats one thing I failed epically in ( hey, I'm an artist, what'd you expect )
I had a feeling you used fractals, but I wasn't sure, as they blend in with the rest so well that they look like they were brushed manually.

Now for the million dollar question... What do you use to create and integrate your planets into your nebula scenes?
Also, thanks for this awesome tutorial!
