Description One of my recent projects, I plan on making a Voyage series, with this spacey sci-fi theme... I wanted to contrast something dark(dark clouds and ship) with something light(colorful nebulae). just trying new stuff, hope ya enjoy it.

Ship was painted in Photoshop, idea is from a model I saw at a museum.

Let your minds go crazy with story ideas and post them

Strongly inspired by Gary Tonge

EDIT: Ok, I've been planning a major edit from the day I uploaded this, this wasnt 100% effort from me at all... I rushed it, but hopefully this version is better... hope ya like it

I cant thank and enough!

My artwork is not stock and it is not to be re-uploaded, edited, or used anywhere in any way without my permission. Please respect that, thank you!

Aa, now we talkin'! THis loos so much better mate, see what smaller changes can do. Tho the changes you've done here is quite big hehe.

Usually people doesn't change much from given crit but here it REALLY made a big difference, very nice now. Much better flow and the way to view the piece really makes it more honesty towards the scenary.

Nice job mate, good you listen to us, sometimes ;D

An excellent nebulae, as one would expect of the space-fractallist master It has a splendid form and depth to it, with the attention to its arms and lighting well showing, which certainly builds up its aesthetically important dimensionality. The starfield, too, is of a magnificent form, to excuse such flattering terms, as it truly does show an beautiful array of variable forms, though maintaining a critical sense of minimalism (i.e. it is not overtly noisy). I must also mention, however, that some of the stars do look a little too distorted; an example being that horizontal, slanted dot at the top. There is also a slight sense of compression amidst some of the nebulae, an example being just buttom left of that aforementioned star, where the nebulae builds up a cottonish form. However I'll also mention, that the cozy stars near the stellar nursery's interior look awesome. That ray also works effectively.

Now, as for the planets, I do actually quite like the gas giant, however there is a very slight sense of compression to the left of it just a little across from the penumbra, where the red is tapering off. There is also a cut looking bit on the planet to its right side, right of the first brownish line of hue, which is suggestive of a scaling issue. Incredibly minor concerns no doubt, but there nonetheless. I am also ambivalent towards the other planet and its moon. On the one hand, it seems as if it could be a tad smaller, and on the other hand, moving the moon elsewhere may solve the entire sense of it needing something there. Perhaps that, or both. However I wouldn't change it if you were happy with it, since this may be a particularly subjective concern in regards to one's taste for planet arrangement, haha.

Ambivalence is also felt towards the ship - it seems to be both hovering above the clouds as a ship and simultaneously looking like an air fortress. Yet it doesn't seem to quite fit being either, it seems to be undecided upon being a floating fortress and a ship, and so the perspective of it seems very ambiguous in regards to the clouds. If it is a ship, perhaps contrasting it against the clouds with a shadow and perhaps some sort of fuel burst around its edges could decide it. Or, if you'd like it to be a fortress, perhaps the clouds could envelope its edges more fittingly, so that no underneath could be seen. perhaps a thing more fitting to make it both would be to add things like wires and sentinels from its base, underneath it. This way you can see that it doesn't just cutoff, but that it is both floating and potentially flying, as you see its industrialesque shapes underneath it. That said, it still looks fairly nice for a first attempt, and is certainly better than half-good.

And since you asked so nicely for a story, and keeping it short, here are some suggestions. Perhaps the voyage is in recognition of a soon-to-be supernova in the nearby star clusters, seeing as how lively it looks. Perhaps, however, supernovas are springing up in all parts of the galaxy, with only subtle clues as to the causes of such phenomena. Perhaps this last remaining sentinel must finds its way through the cryptic passages of time to find its answer, and solve the riddle. Or maybe they just want to explore some other thing of interest, perhaps they're fleeing from the shadows of some monstrous conscious being from the planet or solar system, and perhaps they're trying to figure this out. Just a couple of suggestions anyway.

And on second thought, considering the piece in its entirely, the placement of the elements (such as the planets) is actually quite good, seen apart from the details they're fairly much just right. Nicely done.

The nebula looks like alot like orion's diffuse nebula. That's probably the most believable nebula I've seen in a digital peice. I'd really like to know how you did it. Any pointers on where to start? Do I need a graphics tablet?

I really like the nebula part, but not a big fan of the bottom

I think you got a bit lazy with planet's atmos and colors on the gas giant

The ship has no the best positioning and rotation, imo, also I don't quite understand the clouds. I think making a ship look more like a floating station would make it more appealing.

About the poisitioning I mean that it's so far away from the source and the shadow/light ratio is not quite that obvious that it looks a bit outta place. Maybe it's just me, though.

But you got really good with the nebs

You just gotta smash all my dreams dont ya? HAHA Jk, I like the gas giant, I dont really see anything wrong with it... as for the clouds, I was very weary about em... My plan was to just leave it floating... but I couldnt get it to look right... I dont know, I'll edit the bottom sometime soon... thanks for the input!

Here comes a story

Some guys start a voyage (a pilgrimage) to find some holy artifacts. The guys need these freaky artifacts to save their motherworld, because a black hole (or so) is trying to eat it. Very simple.
And in the end (I'm a bad-ends-fan so...) they find these artifacts but it's already to late, and as they return to their homeworld... well, the black hole was "pretty" hungry.
(but the ending is optional)

However, I really love this one. The ship is really freaky, the-good-old-UFO kind
