Description This is just a small little tutorial on how to create an emote pack in case you don’t know. I know this works in Windows OS however i am unsure about Macs/Linux/Other operating systems.

First things first is to create your emotes. You do this just like you would any normal emoticon and save it as a .png or .gif

If the emotes are for use on msn then i also suggest using a canvas size between 15x15 and 50x50 to ensure they show properly within the program, as well as following the method described in [link] regarding animating them

Once you have all the emoticons made that you wish to place in the pack, put a copy of each within a new folder. It’s best to clearly name all the emotes and the name of the folder to be the same name as your pack.

Also in the folder i advise placing a .txt file (made in notepad or similar) containing info and rules about the distribution of the emotes, dos and don’ts and contact info (even if this is just your dA link) so once the pack is downloaded any info stays with the emotes.

Once you have everything ready, right click on the folder and select Send to > compressed (zipped) file. This should create a copy of the folder as a zip (compressed) file which can then be uploaded to dA.

As it is literally just a folder you will need a preview image. It’s best that this shows a range (if not all) the emotes in the pack, with some sort of nice looking background and something which clearly suggests it’s a pack.

Once everything is ready you can upload it to dA by uploading the zip file along with the preview image. The correct category for packs is Customization > icons > emoticons > Packs and Large Format so be sure to make sure its placed in the correct section. In the artists comments its also a good idea to repeat some of the info on the pack and explain exactly what it contains compared to what the preview image shows.

Anyways, i hoped this helps and i hope to see some more great packs being made

I understand the basic concept of making emots, but how do I assign what is typed to create the emotion in a comment?

Example: To get this emot, ... I type in, :, then juggle, then :, put this all together and it creates this, ...
Do you understand my question?
How do I assign type face to an emotion?

Synfull In reply to Geosammy [2011-02-20 18:35:05 +0000 UTC]

You can only use the ones listed on this list: [link]

Geosammy In reply to Synfull [2011-02-20 18:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for you reply, but I don't get it?

If I type in :,fella,:... I get this emot ...

If I creat my own fella emotion and use the assigned type face for this emot won't I still get their fella emot and not the one I created?

What about emots that arn't on this list such as the plz ones?

I still don't understand how I'm suppose to assign type face to an emot?

Synfull In reply to Geosammy [2011-02-20 20:09:57 +0000 UTC]

In simple, you can't. You can only use emotes listed on that page. making your own Fella emote wont replace the old one and there's currently no way to do it.

Plz accounts are slightly different though. You can read more about them here: [link]

Geosammy In reply to Synfull [2011-02-21 04:19:29 +0000 UTC]

Why make them, if you can't get them to work?
There just 15x15 animated gif's that have no conection to emots other then the way they look.
They may look like emots, but why call them emotions when there clearly not.

I guess I don't get it...

Emotes aren't just used on dA. They are used on forums, websites, IM clients etc. Sometimes emotes from a pack are even made available for use on da like ans .

Geosammy In reply to Synfull [2011-02-21 15:26:35 +0000 UTC]

Sorry if I came off a little rough with my questions. I just got pretty about the thought of creating my own emotes for use here on . Oh well, so mush for wishful thinking...

I really wasn't aware of the many uses emotes had. I see them everywhere on the web. It just never dawned on me were they came from, until now.

Would you know were I might find emotes that aren't on the list of available one. That I can use here, in my comments.

If you use Firefox there is a way to overwrite the images, but only you see the changes. If you're interested then =Nironan12 has a script

Thanks for the link, but I'll stick to whats available without any modifications.
I was so with the thought of making my own emoticons, but from what you've told me this isn't possible.
Thanks anyway...
