been doing these portrait sprites for my planet odd characters for a bit, they are influenced by the spritework in the old puyo puyo for the arcade/mega drive because it's one of my favourite games and it's been on my mind again. i just like how the sprites in that game look so i wanted to try something a bit different for my own pixel art once in a while! that's where the weird resolution (80x56) is taken from, as well as the choice of keeping black outlines, the almost overly shiny hair shading and general lack of dithering.

i started these with a batch of 6 a while back, and made the rest of them today because i decided aside from just using these for my personal toyhou.se character storage i would use them as artfight icons (albeit cropped). my hand hurts lol but they're done now. some of these are a bit wonky but i can be cheeky and say that's part of the style emulated... they are designed to be transparent but i slapped a bg on it just to post as a compilation, the gray backdrops are not part of the limited palettes used for each individual of these.

oh and this is part one since i have about this amt of odds a second time to still do but that's gonna wait. like at least a month. i am tired and i've got more important stuff to do still... but sometimes i get to draw my ocs as a treat
