Description
A sketch of my boyfriend and me
Charcoal pencil, kneaded eraser, 6 hours, A4 paper.
And just a bit of background info:
He's 24, I'm 17, we've known each other for over a year now, we talk practically every day.
He lives in Christchurch (about 800km away from me) so I only get to see him in my school holidays, I've flown down to visit 3 times now. I'll be moving to Christchurch to go to university in 2 months (it's also the only uni that lets me do philosophy as part of my BSc, so it's not exactly like I'm sacrificing my education lol), and living with him for 2 months before semester starts.
He's studying Film at the moment, and getting A's, yay! He hopes to possibly be a director.
*edit* been together for 2 years, Christchurch is awesome, we're finding a flat for next year.

This is quite awesome for a sketch, the simplicity really makes it work. You can see that genuine connection between the two of you. Excellent work, the accuracy here easily makes it pass for a black and white photo (which originally I thought it was!)

Thanks, I imagine we were both very happy at that point, since we're only together for 2 weeks every couple of months (when i have school holidays) but I'll be moving there in Dec. Also, I was probably concentrating on holding the camera straight

Yeah, it's offical, you must have worked your butt off to get this good. Portraits are very hard styles to master, but you're almost there. Just contuine with what you're doing, and soon you'll be doing almost perfect drawings (I say almost because no one is perfect). This was copied from a picture, no?

Altogether good, although you could do some darker shades around the eyes, and a smoother shade between the lips

I love how you chose a dark background, it realy makes the two faces stand out nicely. Your boyfriend's skin seems to have been blended less, I'm not sure if it was an artistic choice or not, but it kind of makes him seem not quite finished, whereas your face looks completely finished. Great portrait drawings!
