Description
Say hi to aridmanders. This is the first cameo of them, as I've finally got them more or less correct. And you can expect more appearing in the future - they are one of the five major sapient species (if you've watched me carefully enough, you have seen something about salkahi, dravene, gureta and datyle too) who inhabit their world. The aridmander are biologically lizards, without any doubts. They're the shortest of all five, but the longest living ones. Aridmanders are known of their toughness (physical and mental), persistence, and their skills in various areas. They change their skin occasionally, so any small scratches won't stay on aridmander any long - but nothing too small can hurt an aridmander. Their skin is a natural armor, their structure is durable and sturdy, overall killing an aridmander is one of the hardest known tasks, especially because an angry aridmander fights back like a rabid badger.
An aridmander becomes excellent in one profession - usually crafts, mining, metallurgy and any unsocial works (excluding the Negotiators, the most social class of aridmanders, who take care that communicating among aridmanders and with other species is sufficient*). As long living creatures, aridmanders become more than excellent in whatever they do, and they're know to be the best ones in any profession they can be in**. Aridmander society is based on master-apprentice -relations, and the social status is tied on this. But it doesn't matter in which profession you're good at, only that matter you can do it well. Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none are not wished.
Every aridmander has unique colour pattern. The sexes are rather similar, females are a bit taller and heavier. (Random: I didn't meant to, but while building this collab I thought "hmm, those two look like they could be a couple. ... Okay, why not." I mean those two in the bottom middle, Ms. armored warrior and Mr. printing guy.)
*Somebody has to be able to translate that "Hrmp." from a clockworks master actually means "I am pleased with our deal of the raw gold and I hope we can continue our business relationship in the future".
**Things like flying are still reserved for somebody else, though there has been some tests...
Sketches, digital texture.
PS. Aridmander babies are also durable, no worries if they are dropped.

I looove the heads on these guys! Very nice and detailed (with the shadowing around their eyes and whatnot) Their bodies are more squat than I would have imaged when reading your desciption, but it adds charm to these guys I think.
And... and, those little babies are so adorable...!

Thanks. c:
Their eyes are a quite deep in their heads, but they also have stereovision - this why that kind of head shape.
Baby age is probably only time when a standard aridmander looks cute to the other species. Then they grow this grumpy look (yes, they can smile, scaly face is just not that expressional and their skull shape makes them look grumpy even if it's just their neutral expression).

You're welcome! Um, let's see... could you explain more what stereovision is? I've probably heard it before somewhere... Aww, they don't look too grumpy They just look, well, serious. And about them not smiling very well, it kind of reminds me of the Ronso from Final Fantasy X (I'm not sure if you've ever seen or heard of them before, but they're a cat-like race that can't smile very well
).

Quoting from Wikipedia, it is "the impression of depth that is perceived when a scene is viewed with both eyes by someone with normal binocular vision." (Google usually helps with terms.)
I only know Final Fantasy, haven't played myself. Ronso sounds something like Finnish people would name their elephants if elephant was a common pet around here.

Oh, thank you for the description! Hahaha, elephants!
I don't know a lot about Finnish people (I'm guessing you're one?) but that is awesome.
Especially since Ronso's are big cats...

Ei se oo niin kriittistä, se vaan pyörii jonnekin nurkkaan ja on kuin ei mitään. (Mut nootti tolle draveenille: älä koske aromanterivauvoihin ilman asianosaisen lupaa tai muuten.....)

They look well though out. Can see the play on just smooth head or some showy scale or some what seems like a small bit of furring and scale 👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Their scales become more "crispy" when they age. They stay a quite smooth until adulthood. (You can compare this to when human males start losing hair - it usually happens in middle adulthood but it's very individual after all.)
