Description
These are a series of redesigns for Team RWBY that I am making for a new RWBY Alternate Universe Project, called RWBY: Visions. Read more to see more info and my design thoughts.
VisionsRWBY: Visions is a fan reimagining of RWBY’s story from the ground up. It takes all the familiar characters we know and love, its lore and setting, and starts from the very beginning of Volume 1, but with my own little twists added to it.
However, it is also a community project. Over on a dedicated Reddit site , I’m working together with fans to look at the show’s story and lore in order to improve and explore.
I decided to hit things off by redesigning Team RWBY. I want these redesigns to be embody what Visions is about: Taking and respecting the originals, while also looking at them in a fresh, new way.
To start off is the leader of the team, none other than…
Ruby Rose, Huntress In-TrainingWhile I was redesigning Team RWBY, I wanted to make sure there was a clear direction with their designs. I used a one-phrase description to guide my process for each character. For Ruby, it was:
“The Aspiring Hero”
> With Ruby, I designed her with the idea in mind that she wants to be a hero and Huntress, and it’s reflected in her outfit. What would this outfit look like if Ruby designed it herself? She’d want to look like a cool, heroic monster hunter, even if she wasn’t one yet. She’d have cool gear like a cape, belts and gloves, but also wants to satisfy her own tastes in fashion and looking cute.
> My main influences with Ruby’s redesign are her V1 outfit and Shirow Miwa’s redesign of her. Her V1 design is memorable, but all the large areas of black made her silhouette hard to distinguish and felt a bit monotone.
> I gave Ruby some leather elements, such as her corset and the gloves, in order to break up the black and red and give more visual interest. The leather is still quite close in shade to the reds too, so it doesn’t clash.
> I also added thorn patterns on her corset and belt, playing into her rose motif and gothic fashion. The green also helped contrast the red and added some colour variety into her design without taking away from the primary black-red scheme.
> Modified her frills a little so they resemble rose petals.
Next is Weiss.

I'd probably have tried to avoid green in RWBY's design. All of Volume 1 had a color palette focused on a mixture of red, white, black, and yellow; this was core to the aesthetic, and perhaps even the story's themes ( www.reddit.com/r/RWBY/comments… ). Other than that, looks great. (Your other RWBY redesigns look cool, too. They fit together with the stories their characters tell better than most canon designs.)

I must say that I'm not that familiar with the franchise but the art caught my eye. I really liked her expression, lines and color, I'm a sucker for red capes/scarves. Really nice work!
