Just some quick concept sketches for my take on an older Ruby, nothing final. Was intending to draw an adult version at first, but she ended up looking really young, so her age here is about 17-18.
>> Gave her a scar, because having an older Ruby with a mutilated body part of some sort is all the rage in the AU fandom.
>> This one is a burn scar from a big end-Volume fight with Cinder. Ruby managed to defeat/fend her off just seconds after her own Aura depleted, leaving her injured.
Ruby being Ruby, this doesn’t affect her at all, and she uses it as a reminder of how close she came to death, allowing her to appreciate the sacrifices of those who have passed and those still alive that much more.
>> Made the red highlights of her hair more intense. My theory is that the ends grow more red as she gets older.
>> Tried my hand redesigning Crescent Rose, just explorations really. I tried fusing the original concept with that of Qrow’s, so it has a gun form, scythe and also a sword. I also changed the gun configuration from a sniper rifle to something more like an assault rifle to suit Ruby’s mobility more.

Good thing Qrow stepped in when he did, otherwise Ruby would've had a scar over her eye, assuming she'll still HAD an eye

You know how they say "chicks dig scars"? Well, I may not be a "chick", but I do very much "dig scars"!
Also, yes, Future!Ruby having permanent injury or scarring is a big thing in the fandom (losing an eye, with subsequent eyepatch, seems to be the most popular).

For Ruby? Actually haven't seen that, it's mostly just eyepatches. I'd love it if you could link some examples!
Funny thing is, I'm writing a story where Future Ruby has a prosthetic left leg after a bad experience with an Alpha crocodile Grimm.
Future Weiss has extensive burn scarring down her left side, including her face (think Balalaika from "Black Lagoon") courtesy of Cinder.
Blake still has her ribbon, only now it's covering the eye she lost during her final fight against Adam.
Yang, of course, has her robotic arm.

"Hey, future me! How did you, uh, I, we lose a leg?"
"Well, me and the rest were at Ren and Nora's wedding, and Weiss said I should wear something nice for the ceremony, which included high heels. Against my better judgement, I agreed, but when I walked into the church that day, I tripped over the shoes, and my foot snapped right off! Right at the ankle!"

From the redesign Crescent Rose, it looks like Ruby has learned how much weight could be shaved off to increase her speed.
Not to mention how Ruby looks so mature and confidant, while retaining her trademark a sweet nature and puppy dog eyes.
Although I have been wondering if full powered Cinder a crushing defeat would make her go insane enough to hunt after the other maidens,
and return to kill Salem and be the final boss.

Yeah, that was intention with her weapon. Glad you got that impression from her. I wanted to keep her trademark bright look, and used the scar as a way to contrast it and make it stand out even more.
As for Cinder, hunting the other Maidens seems likely, and possibly more likely the silver-eyed warriors since she lost so badly to one.

Although on a side, I see her also becoming a skilled baker in
making food for those displaced by Grimm. Really fits well with
her character.
Got that idea from psychoanalyzing what we have seen of her and comparing her to villains of other series,
as well as fan speculation in fanworks and forums. Although personally I still go for that she is the result of
the "What if the Fairy Godmother was evil" scenario.

the whole 'Looking like a parent' is overplayed.

I do like this. The scar is kinda cute, the fact that her scythe has a Naginata mode is pretty neat, and I do love the redesign for Crescent Rose. The outfit is also very Ruby, if that makes any sense at all xD 10/10

Removing a limb or an eye was too drastic for me, so I went with the closest thing.
