Description It's killing me posting this already, but I am not sure if I'll be able to finish this before new year and I want to submit it in 2015 because I think it shows some of my progress this year. So here it is. Hopefully I will be able to finish it sooner or later.

She's a viking, and an original character of mine for a book I am writing.

Tried a new technique building up the values, and playing with concept art.

For I would really like some tips for the layer of fabric sticking out underneath the chainmail (the area between the pants and chain mail). I know it's not supposed to look like that, but I can't seem to get it right. How would fabric fall if affected by the heavy metal on top of it?

I really like this design and the different textures you managed. Though, I do feel the whole piece could use some more highlights, as the whole figure seems rather dark right now.

As for the skirt/chainmail thing. I think both of them should curve up more on the (for us) left leg, because she is bending it.  I also don't think the folds in the fabric would be that severe if the chainmail is lying on top of it. It should probably lie more flat.

There are also some little things, like the hair seems to be a bit too big on top and I can't really tell what's going on at the (for us) left shoulder and neck area, but something feels a little off. Like that fur should be lower.

Wow thank you for that elaborate feedback  The highlights are definately something that needs to be worked on, I am still in the process of taking the values from dark to lighter, so I hope those will turn out better. I think you pointed out a lot of problem areas for me to work on.

As for the fabric, I just figured there would be some sort of folds, flat or otherwise since there is a lot of fabric in the tunic and it would fold somewhere even if it is all the way up under the chainmail?

You're welcome! I'm curious to the final result.

Yes, there would be folds, but the fold would be pressed flat, sort of like pleats and then at the end of the fabric there would be more space between.

Me too, it's the first time I tried painting like that.

Fabric just kills me every time.
