Well, it wasn't THAT bad. I prefer the original style of gameplay to this, but it's still a fun game.

I prefer the first 8, but I still liked this game, though, and with Mario Party 10 coming up I can get excited again.

I haven't played any of the gamecube ones in a long time, but I played a bunch of themΒ (1, 2, 3, 6, 8, DS)Β over the summer, after playing a them I'd have to say 2 was actuallyΒ the best

I played 1 and 2, and 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and DS! I say 4 the best, but we all have our opinion, so its cool

There all good in their own ways (except Advanced... haven't played it recently, but I don't have any fond memories of it)
Just because my favorite is 2 doesn't mean I don't like the others, I really had fun with with all of them (even 8, which to me was a bit of a disappointment, but still entertaining)
I haven't played 9 or 3DS because they just don't look fun (which makes me sad about 10 because they're going with 9's gameplay)
As an experiment I think it was OK to mix up the gameplay and try something new, but I don't want this to be the permanent gameplay for every Mario Party now, I would just rather have the classic Mario Party styled game.
What would be cool is if they made Mario Party 11 a time travel game where they take one map from each game and remake it in HD (then you'd have the classic and new gameplay all in one game)
Then remake all of the best Minigames

Mario Party 9 is a love it, or hate it game, I'm in the middle. The boards felt fresh, it may not be as fun as the others, but I can go with it. The mini-games was fun as well, many say they're uninventive, but just face it, none of the mario parties, except 1, had inventive mini-games, nor boards, but It was fun! Plus, every Mario Party have that one mini-game, except advance, thats just extra fun and outstanding! I do agree with your statement however, good to see new ideas, but the classic where its at!

No matter what game, the minigames will always be fun; but that's one thing that bothered me about 9 (again, I've never played it, but I have seen videos), in every Mario Party it's the "4 turns then a minigame" system, in 9 they changed it to the "Minigame Spaces" :/ Β It kinda ruins the whole point or Mario Party (to me) ...
Mushroom Mix-up, that has always been my favorite of any Mario Party minigames (Hexagon Heat of Mario Party 2 was the same thing with a different theme, but Mushroom Mix-up was just a wee-bit better)
New ideas are always the better way to go; experimentation, seeing what sticks and what doesn't, giving people a new experience instead of pumping out the same junk every game (*coughchoughcallofdutycough*). Β While I'm not fond of the new style for Mario Party, I think it is good that they are mixing it up (but I do wish that they would go back).
I justΒ think that the Time Travel idea could work for just one game (maybe like an anniversary game or something)

lol its true, the mini-game are less common, even when blue spaces somethings cause mini-games and there are 2 boss battles, not many mini-games show up!
My favorite Mario Party minigame is from 9. Its Tumble Temple, because it gets insane after the minigame halfway over!

In my opinion this game is Super fun! I like the concept of traveling by car, that way you get to the goal a lot faster, and only when it is your turn to drive does something bad usually happens, I know this pic is probably old but, Mario Party 9 is fun especially the mini-games

Actually, Konami Digital Entertainment Co. Ltd. purchased full copyright of Hudson Soft and it ceased to exist, but quite a few of Hudson's employees, mainly those that developed the Mario Party franchise migrated to ND Cube, but I still can't believe they thought it was a good idea to change the gameplay in Mario Party 9! Everyone moves together, no coins nor stars, and it's 100% chance, while prior Mario Parties go through strageties. Mario Party 8 is much MUCH better than Mario Party 9. Island Tour Allowed Individual Movement again, but it still wasn't the same, and Mario Party 10 brings back the altogether movement!!!! Changing the gameplay of Mario Party was actually one of the worst ideas Nintendo or any of their second or third party partners ever had! Mario Party has been fantastic and fun until Mario Party 9 came along and changed everything!

...I actually like the car in 9 and 10. Since everyone's moving together, it can mean for some good chances to fuck your opponents over, especially if you have a Slow Dice Block. I also find the idea of Captain Events to be pretty cool, choosing which turn each character goes in/what dice block each character uses so you get the reward.
Island Tour, on the other hand, is a different story. It's basically a combination of the two formulas, but the short boards, lackluster minigames, and forgettable music make it a game I don't want to go back to. Like, ever. The best part of Mario Party was the minigames, but Island Tour just went and blew it. Hey kids, have you ever wanted to move a figure of a Mario character with inconsistent Gyroscope controls? Have you ever wanted to take pictures of Mario characters in places around a really small area that you would never think to look for? Have you ever wanted to ride down a waterslide when you could be getting off your lazy ass and going on one yourself? Then Mario Party: Island Tour is the game for you! That's pretty much what Island Tour says to me.
All in all, I like the car, but I wish they would go back to the original style.

If that's your opinion, that's your opinion. Mario Party 9 and Mario Party 10 are certainly bad Mario Party games IMOΒ due to how they changed the gameplay. And I at the most part,agree with you on Island Tour. It has individual moving and has a similar formula to Mario Party 9, slightly improving, but Island Tour is still an abysmal Mario Party game due to it's pointless and unintelligent minigames and lack of 1-vs-3 and 2-vs-2 minigames. There's only 4 categories of Minigames; General Minigames, Boss Minigames, AR Minigames, and Puzzle Minigames. If there's a handheld Mario Party with better Minigames, it's Mario Party DS.

I never really noticed the lack of 1-vs-3 or 2-vs-2 minigames, but that's a really big problem. They've been around since the beginning (they were even in 9) and they just removed them to compensate for some underwhelming puzzle minigames and AR minigames that you probably won't even have the card for unless you use Club Nintendo. And the boss minigames... Oh boy... The boss minigames try way too hard to be the ones in 9 but they fail terribly. And the ideas for them are just stupid. I mean they could've brought back bosses that actually deserve the title like Boom Boom or Goomboss from 64 DS, but nope, we have stupid stuff like the Goomba Tower and recycled bosses like Chain Chomp. You can tell that they really weren't even trying with Island Tour's minigames.

I liked the game, it was ALRIGHT, but the fact of travelling around in the car...is the ONLY thing I don't like about it. And the fact they have rubbish unlockable characters.
I have to say, I prefer Mario Party 8.
