The poor ponies of Equestria were at first very frightened of this strange occurrence, but soon got use to it once it started becoming a daily thing.---

Oopsie to see the princesses collide, even the sun & moon too. We're glad that the sun did not devour the moon and also both of them are of same size rather than the Earth's sun which is more than 1000 times bigger than Earth's Moon.

Read it too, seasons matter. The overall size is also another, normally the sun is a star, it has no mass, just a giant ball of gas, so collision between Equestria's sun & moon is normally unlikely unless their sun has mass so that collision can happen without ending up the moon pass right through the sun. Earth's however, more likely the moon is destroyed, devoured alive.

Well technically there's no specific size given to the sun and moon on the show.
Equestria's world doesn't work the way our's does (I mean the sun and moon are lifted up by talking flying horses)
The sun is large and far away and we orbit around it, while the moon is small and close and orbits around us, giving us our day and night cycle. In Equestria day and night is determined by the princesses raising and lowering the sun and moon.
Seasons, like summer and winter, here are effected by the the Earth's distance from sun, when it's tilted closer it's summer, when it's farther it's winter. But in Equestria it's just the pegasi saying, "Hey!... Snow now!"
The way their world works is different from ours, so who's to say that the sun and moon aren't the same size?

A Sun of our Sun's size is necessary (while considering distances between the 2) to warm and ensure life on a planet of Earth's size... So, either their world is minuscule (in order for a Sun the size of a standard Moon to be able to warm the world), or their Sun (in THIS comic) is *seriously* and *massively* bending the laws of the Universe like not even magic itself or Discord could.
