I was just trying to capture bubble shots yesterday and i come to Deviantart and see this. wow! What a coincidence! I love how you captured it. But I wanted to ask if there is any specific shutter speed that has to be set to capture the bubbles? Because I use a digital camera and it's so technical and I just couldn't capture my bubbles the way i liked.

Congrats on the DD

T-freak In reply to SaphireGoddess [2006-06-25 23:52:20 +0000 UTC]

hmmm, well i really didnt pay much attention to the shutter speed, the more crucial factor would be the depth of field to really isolated the bubble from the background, it works best outside on a sunnyday so that the bubbles shine and reflect colour from the grass and sky which makes them more interesting and easy to see, as for shutter speed, whatever you find appropriate to freeze a scene in reasonable light, so fairly fast. i hope that was useful

SaphireGoddess In reply to T-freak [2006-06-26 02:06:36 +0000 UTC]

oh yeah. thank u very much But I have little ideas about setting a depth of field at a certain point.....any ideas?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

T-freak In reply to SaphireGoddess [2006-06-26 02:30:37 +0000 UTC]

ok basically it is really hard for a camera to focus on a particular point such as a bubble because they can be really hard to distinguish from the background plus they are small and move fairly fast. therefore autofocus generally isnt very good unless ur camera can focus on something the same distance away as the bubbles, so manually focus ur camera to the right distance before you try to catch the bubbles, the closer u can get while keeping the bubbles in nice sharp focus the more outof focus the background should become. this sets up a depth of feild. If you look at this composition i focused on the straw thing first and so the bubble just leaving is in focus, the other had drifted closer so had gone slightly out of focus and the background is virtually unrecognisable because of its ditance away from the focused point. sorry to be woffling but im not really a photographer as such and its tricky to explain. basically if u are close to what ur focusing on it will throw anything nearer or further away out of focus. hopefully that will help abit, b sure to ask more questions if u dont understand. r u using a digital camera with manual focus?

SaphireGoddess In reply to T-freak [2006-06-26 13:33:48 +0000 UTC]

thank u very much for taking the time to tell me these. I really appreciate it. I will use your advise and try to put it to work in my next bubbles photo sesssion.

yes my camera does have a manuan focus, i mean not like the regular manual camera it's more like a vedio camera "w----t"

but It is a digital SLR so i will do some reading of the manual book and your advise as well. surely will ask u again if i need anything. Thanks alot !!1

Have you ever watched a movie with Elijah Wood in it called Green Street Hooligans? Well, they have this theme song in there about bubbles. It's been stuck in my head for the past 3 days. I'll type it up for you...

I'm forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air. They fly so high, they reach the sky. And like my dreams they fade and die. Fortunes always hiding, I've looked every where. I'm forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air.

So, yeah. I thought it funny that I see a DD of a person blowing bubbles. XD. Congrats by the way!
