this is for you.for all of you.
for those who are but are not.
for those who believe love is just a chemical reaction.
for those who are nothing but static on the mainstream radio.
for those who will never know forever.
for those who live in the highs and lows of the roller-coaster ocean breeze.
for those who hurt themselves because they're afraid of hurting anyone else.
for those whose cries have been drowned by the summer rain.
for those who have been mistaken for God.
for those who battle a thousand soldiers of themselves just to find who they really are.
for those who are nothing but natural disasters.
for those who sink somewhere between electric blue oceans and shimmering rainbows of euphoria.
for those whose insanity makes poetry - and those whose poetry drives them insane.
for those who are weighed down by gravity.
for those who have found equilibria in a heart that is caught in a chain reaction of passionate apathy.
for those who wait for the classroom telephone to ring their eulogy.
for those who think God is just another love song.
for those who are nothing but needle eyes and inkless words.
for those who open the windows when it's raining, just to hear the whole world cry.
for those who leave and never return.
for those who forget it all on the ride home.
for those who love - and those who are loved.
for you.
stand up.
stand up against yourself.
and breathe.
breathe it all out.
because tonight,
no one has to bleed
to feel alive.

That last stanza... those last three lines... are magnificent. Also, I really love this: "for those who believe love is just a chemical reaction." I know people who think like that, and I can't help but feel sorry for them.

This is just... amazing.
I attempted a piece similar to Shake the Dust myself (check my Gallery), but this absolutely blows it out of the water. Beautiful imagery, easy to relate to, flowing yet structured and just the right level of abstract.

I like this. It sounds like an anthem.
This is the kind of writing that will really hit a soft spot in whoever is reading. I think it's good that you really diversified the people you want to hear the message to. You included not just the lonely, sad or lost ones, but also others like those who hide behind indifference, those who are brought down by themselves or others, and those who need to live up to expectations.

These are the lines that stood out to me, and I don't know if that's because I resonate with them, or because I am realizing more and more that there are different ways of becoming broken or down. I don't know if you missed anyone, but as far as I can tell, you hit all of them.
I'm not sad or down right now, but I'm sure to come back to this and read it again and again when I am. It's very inspiring, and it shows that we are not alone and we have every right to feel alive without hurting ourselves.

I really appreciate your compliment, but I'd like to request that you don't perform it for your class; it's very personal to me and I'd be uncomfortable with someone I don't know using it. I'd also be uncomfortable with you cutting out those parts, as those are highly important to the piece. I wrote them in there for a reason; not to be "offensive" (which those parts definitely are not), but to get a message across. I hope you understand.

It flows amazingly, it's very coherent (but then again, you could make me believe almost any jumble of words was coherent, as long as they made me think), there's no difference between abstract and real, I don't know if you forgot anyone, but you mentioned me in there at least 10 times, heh.
