PLACED SECOND AT THE TFCON TORONTO 2D ART CONTEST.#spacetrex
This piece is inspired by Matt Tieger of High Moon Studios and his use of the term "Space T-Rex" when describing Grimlock from the upcoming Transformers game 'Fall of Cybertron' to the mainstream media. Some uptight fans gave him crap about using a "silly" term like that, but I effing love it. Space T-Rex forever!
So I made this art! Loosely based off of Grimlock's FoC design. Here he is floating serenely in space, like a space T-Rex does. Actually he probably is usually crushing things. But whatever.
Sketched out in sketchbook pro and photoshop, inked in illustrator, colored in photoshop.
I also used this lovely star field fav.me/d4v1l8u from the awesome in the background.

For the CtrlPaint crowd,
The Space nebula BG stuff is pure photoshop so you can ignore it.
The robot is self was colored using lots of temp layers and brush control. I colored the line art in some spots by locking the transparent pixels. I used comic style flats for selections. This is the first time I had time to actually practice some stuff from the videos. It was a good time.
