Description
...both are technically true, but they also cosmically understate just how powerful they really are.I know I've already addressed this in the past, but I felt like I should reiterate my point, because despite how popular he's become over the last few decades, it's still amazing just how little most people seem to know about Cthulhu or the lore surrounding the character. There are plenty of people who still write Cthulhu off as just another kaiju-class monster in the same vein as Godzilla...which is laughable, because the only thing Godzilla and Cthulhu have in common is their size. In terms of power-scale, trying to compare the two is like comparing Smaug to Shenron. They're not even in the same galaxy, let alone zip code!
Just going off of "The Call of Cthulhu" and "At The Mountains of Madness" the powers we KNOW Cthulhu canonically has are...
-Immortality
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with many strange eons even death may die."
-Telepathy
Cthulhu can enter and influence the minds of men both twisting them to his will and driving them to madness (and that's just in his sleep, imagine what he could do when he's awake).
-Dream Manipulation
An extension of his telepathic abilities...just replace Freddy Kruger with Cthulhu.
-Regeneration
You know that part in "The Call of Cthulhu" where everybody thinks he was killed by a boat? What the text actually describes is far more horrifying. Cthulhu has the ability to regenerate his head despite it being split in half!
-Creation of Life
Cthulhu has the power to create an army of miniature clones of himself called "Star Spawn" that all possess a fraction of his power, it's also sometimes implied that Cthulhu either created the Deep Ones or otherwise transformed them into what they became (hence why they worship him).
-Ritual Magic/Dark Cleric
Cthulhu is the priest to the Outer Gods, and if we're to incorporate D&D rules that technically means he can call upon and channel the power of his gods (which considering who his gods are I really don't think I need to elaborate).
Other powers not directly supported by the source material, but generally accepted by the fandom include...
-Nigh-Invulnerability
-Nigh-Omniscience
-Hydrokinesis
-Plasma Manipulation
-Shapeshifting
-Essokinesis (Reality-Warping)
-Dimensiokinesis
