Description
The ηε€[Pan Gu] was the second of the massive Gaia-class terraforming 'ark' ships used for extremely long-range colonization. Gaia-class ships carry their own fleets of mining and escort vessels along with their respective automated fabrication plants. The aft section of the ship is dedicated to manufacturing of colonial cities [orange boxes] which would be dropped off at appropriate sites and unfold, ready to be inhabited. Forward "fingers" are bristling with earth-moving equipment, but also contain science facilities for seeding fauna and flora. Once the colony has been fully established, the vessel powers down permanently to become part of the landscape.Draft started out as an art duel, topic being 'giant terraforming robot.'
And yes, it's supposed to look like a hand caressing the planet herp derp derp

Is it bio-degradable? If not you'll just haveΒ rusting mountains of dangerously falling apart metal that will cause all sorts of problems. But if it were made out of a substance that is bio-degradable then it could actually be absorbed back into the environment. Why not? Its sci-fi!

Perhaps it'll be salvaged and recycled for materials before anything.

...Or if its maintained it can continue to be used as a city. Let me ask though, are we seeing only the hand of a much larger robot/mecha or is the hand the whole ship? If so, why a hand (other than that it looks mad cool!)?

Dude - there's a LANDING FIELD on the thumb! Impressive!!!!
Where can I find the Pan Gu myth? I love for-our-time interpretations of ancient mythology.

Thank you!!! I can see where there would be a lot more to any given terraforming machine than just the hand you portrayed. The idea of a hyper-Macross-sized vehicle breaking down to create a livable planet is extremely impressive! Do you plan to do more illustrations around this myth?

I really like the unfolding cities idea and the detail such as the letters on the "fingers." I'm not sure how I feel about the ship-shaped-like-hand thing
As always, great job.

whats the process when it comes to Photoshop? I am used to Corel Painter X. I attempt at Photoshop but always disappointed with the lack of instant texture results because everything is so flat at first.

You either use brushstrokes to make your own texture or use custom brushes.

for some reason i can see your giant terraforming robot flat on the groundn kinda hugging a planet and making snow angels Aka. terraforming...lol as the equipment built into its arms and maybe legs gets to work on the ground... the new colony mysteriously looks like a snow angel from orbit...
nice hand btw...
