Description:
---------------
The Carabineer-class is a lightly armed dedicated patrol frigate.
After the first expansion wave of the Union of Free Systems it became increasingly clear that the UFSN required a larger number of more economical dedicated patrol ships to properly secure and police shipping lanes, remote government installations and civilian infrastructure against the escalating threat posed by the various groups of pirates and raiders.
The first such ship class was the Carabineer-class patrol frigate, essentially a “streamlined” Alaris-class mainline frigate with a lighter and much more economical weapons loadout that was still sufficient to deal with the usually only lightly protected raiding vessels used by most pirate groups. The ship is technically a warship but deployed almost exclusively in it's intended role, often alongside older light frigates.
