...this way, Zira would have conquered the goddamn Pridelands in no time. ~_~For those who don't know (=everyone), Tabby is one of my characters. And has nothing to do with the TLK universe. One of the "trained to kill" kind, like Mewtwo or Kovu, with the difference that he never turned against his master. ...And normally he doesn't wear that nice Tarzan outfit but real clothing.
The pic was supposed to look like taken from a picture book... worked, I think.
Mh, I might move this into my regular gallery... or not. e.e

Thank you, but don't say that. The Lion King was done by art geniuses with no exception. Just because I can stuff more details in a picture than in an average TLK frame is just because I don't have to animate the whole thing.

What is the background story for this drawing?

There really isn't any. ^^ I just noticed that Tabby is a really stereotype character. So I took another stereotype character of the same kind and exchanged the two. Just for fun. Don't know if you're familiar with The Lion King 2, if not, consider yourself lucky. The movie sucked, imho. Anyway, it was about that young lion Kovu who was brutally trained by his evil mother Zira to help her kill Simba and gain control over the Pridelands. It's the same old story with Taburo, only that he's not part of the Disney universe but of my own little brainchild world.

In fact only a month ago I watched the ending of the first "Lion King" movie. All related with one night, many years, ago I had to leave the film on the middle (just before that famous Elton John song) to go home.
Thanks for the warning though I'm not that much into cartoons right now.
So you want a main character that's bigger than life, assuming that Taburo is a main character, good for you

What is he... Hm, I'd say anthro dragon at first glance but I created him before I got familiar with the european furry fandom. So he isn't. Since my father is much into all types of esoteric stuff I based Tabby and all my other strange creatures on a Tibetian myth. Have you ever heard of tulpas? It's said that if you focus your mind extremely hard on a certain image or creature it may actually come into being, taking a ghost-like ectoplasmic shape. Tabby and the others are the advanced form of that, so to say. Artificial lifeforms, imperfect in many ways but with a will of their own. More or less. In his case, less.
Ok. By now you will have had a good laugh about my strange mind so I won't bother you any longer with it.
And yes, I've heard about Kimba... I used to watch that show when I was 5 years old or so. Some people I know watched it again recently... they all were like "Wow, I didn't remember that it was SO bad." *g* Guess I'll rather stick with my happy childhood memories.

I think I've read about "tulpas", on those books about phenomena and such that regularly appear on Reader's Digest booklist. It's more of a "I've heard about this before" feeling.
Feel free to bother me with your "strange" mind. I can't see why it is strange...
FYI I didn't laugh at this. It's a story concept and just as long as you don't border on sci-fi and keep it consistent, you've got thumbs up from me. Just as an assurance I say that I've read Michel Ende's "The Neverending Story" and "Momo". I liked them
I remember Kimba being SO bad, it aired here when I was 12 or 13. The story was perhaps a bit farfetched but it was interesting. Now the animation, that was the lowdowner, though I could ascribe it as an impressionist style to action sceens.
We've been too pampered with those realistic cartoons
