"Eek... I looked down."The baby Growlithe was seperated from its trainer in the wilderness but luckily a wild Manectric found the pup. Now it's trying to bring the little one back home... and the log is slippery! Let's hope they're not attacked by hungry Spearows before they reach the other side.
One of my more serious attempts at a backgrounds... uhm... =.= Could use some more work I guess... much more, but I'm tired now.

It was cold, it was snowing, and it was really, really windy. Thatβs not good. I donβt like any of those things and theyβre worse when put together. βGod, Iβm gonna freezing my ass off up here.β I mumbled as I drove through the blizzard; βAnd for what? Because some crazy dude in the Artic found what he thinks is an alien space ship. With my luck it will be a weather balloon and I wouldβve come up here for nothing. Nothing, I say. Nothing!β

That was my first serious try on rocks and it took ridiculously long. It helps if you have a sketch for orientation. If not, draw a grey block with sharp edges. Then take a softer, smaller brush and draw broader light and dark lines on them, in the best case you already have a feeling for where light would hit the surface and where shadows fall. Then take an even smaller brush and a lighter color and define the edges. Just trace them where your random strokes fell. You can do the same with a darker color and the shadowed parts. I noticed that sharp edges and many little strokes and structures make rocks look "good", also random little spots. If the rock begins to look more 3D, go over the parts again and add contrast. And in the end give the brightness slider a good push down. ^^

The background on this actually looks really great. I like the level of detail on the trees and the grass. This is a sweet scene too. That pup is really cute.

nice manetric. something which bothered me about the concept of that pokemon was how the fur on the front of his head looked really stiff, like he was deformed, for that reason i never really trained one. ryby/sapphire didnt have a good selection of electric pokemon IMO. Yellow/red/blue had jolteon, zapdos, pika, gold/sapphire/crystal had ampharos ( VERY versatile pokemon),Raikun, some others ive prolly forgot..ruby/sapphire just has the usual magnemites and voltorbs and those pikachu things with +- signs on their cheeks. x-x

I like this pic a lot... it's just full of character and personality, things that appeal to me more than artsy fartsyness actually. I like the more dinosaur-ish look to Manectric's paws. The bg is very lush and pretty even though the water looks odd. Yeah... cute pic o.o

I love your stuff. The background is great, the growlithe pup is great, and the manectric is the best because you got rid of that odd triangular growth on its head and made it look more like it should.

The real Manectric looks rather odd to me. The fur looks like big plates or something. But this. This drawing actually gives you the idea of this beeing some kind of Wolf. And the real Manectric look like some ancient drawings( like those from egypt ). The first 151 pokemons looked like animals. But for some reason the newer ones are NOT animal like. They looks WRONG! But this drawing really shows the pokemon as a wolf. And not something really wird. And as said by StellarWind: the name is also bad. Raibolt sounds so good. Manectric, yurk!

(Raibolt = Manectric's Japanese name, and the one I use to refer to it, as frankly, I hate the name Manectric with a passion. Stupid translators.)

I totally agree with you about the name. I don't like those put-together names... well okay Raibolt is put together as well but it sounds better. Why couldn't they keep it? btw, in German it's called Voltenso.
